Things to Make for a Baby

Updated on February 6, 2017

Lots of Baby Things to Make

I've been seeing all kinds of gifts to make for a baby online, so I'm filling this page with a collection of what I think are some of the best ideas and tutorials for creating baby things. The patterns vary from simple baby toys to an elaborate rocking chair and cradle combo. (The latter one would make an ideal family heirloom for sure.)

The softies pictured are pajama eaters. These may be something you'd consider making for a baby. Of course, it would be a while before a baby could actually use the pajama eater, but in the meantime they are cute to look at, don't you agree? More info about Pajama Eaters here.

Make your own bias tape binding EASILY with these super and inexpensive tools. The bias tape tool allows you to create lots of gorgeous double fold bias tape at a very low cost. (I make 11 1/4 yards of bias tape out of only 1/2 yard of fabric!)

Use this bias tape ruler to make cutting the fabric quick and easy. Then go to Prudent Baby to learn the super clever method she uses so bias tape making will have you asking yourself... "why haven't I done this before? It's so FUN!"

I think handmade things made the best gifts. You've given me some great ideas.

A hand made gift is always special. You brought back the memory of a very special hand made quilt that a family friend was making when I was pregnant with my first son but she passed away before she was able to finish it. Her daughter knew that it was a project close to her Mom's heart, so she finished it and wrapped it up from her Mom at the shower. I use that quilt for all my children and often thought of the labor of love it was. :)

The last thing I made for BabyG (baby grand or grandbaby) is a cotton stretch vest to wear in the tub. There's nothing slippery than a wet baby!

I used to only crochet blankets, but with my last granddaughter I made her a whole set since I'm learning to sew. Its in my crafts as gifts lens.

I love to sew quilts for new babies... and I always treasured homemade gifts that I received for my babies.

I crochet. Every one of my children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren all have an afghan I designed and crocheted for them. Also each grandchild and great-grandchild has a crocheted bear made especially for them. Now I crochet for hospital newborns whose families have little. It's a satisfying hobby both in keeping my hands busy and in helping someone else.

I made each of my grandkids gifts: a quilt and diaper bags. Fun stuff! Love all of the options here.

I'm known in my family for baby quilts. I've made one for each of my grandkids. My two oldest grandsons have long outgrown their baby quilts, but the two younger guys are still using theirs. My daughter has put away the older boys' quilts to give to their wives when they grow up and get married. What a sweet idea!
