2011 Smart for Two Smart Car Review

Updated on February 16, 2011

Smart cars have been on the market for a couple of years now, and with rising fuel costs, they continue to gain increased popularity in the United States as well as abroad. Some of the most popular smart cars on the market today are those produced by Mercedes and sold under the Smart brand. These cars are affordable, compact, and save consumers tons of money on fuel each year. However, obtaining one is still not that easy.

Smart cars are being sold through Smart centers across the United States. The Smart Center is a car dealership that deals specifically in smart cars manufactured by Mercedes. While the price of most smart cars is well below $15,000, there are substantial waiting lists in many cities for all models of smart cars. This means that most consumers interested in a smart car may have to wait up to two years to actually be able to purchase one.

There are three models of the Smart car being produced by Mercedes. These cars have become known as the Smart for Two. The Smart for Two Passion Coupe is currently the most popular smart car on the market, and it retails for just under $12,000. Other models include the Cabriolet and the Pure Coupe, which are also commonly referred to as the Smart for Two.

Getting an up-close look at one of the new Smart cars often involves a trip to a local Smart Center.  Local dealers can be found on the official Smart USA website. The company currently has smart center locations in California, Washington, Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Minnesota, Florida, and just about every state on the Eastern seaboard.

These Euro-designed smart centers allow consumers to preview all smart car models, and test drives are often available. The Smart car boasts an unbeatable fuel economy of 39 mpg in the city and up to 41 mpg on the highway. The exterior plastic panels of the car are also interchangeable and recyclable, which only adds to the environmentally-friendly feel of the vehicle.

Despite the Smart cars compact size, the interior of the car is actually quite comfortable for two people. Some smart car models also come equipped with a sun roof and additional sound package features. Although the car is much smaller than even most traditional compact cars, there is no lag in power. Smart cars designed by Mercedes feature some style attributes that mimic modern racing cars, and the Cabriolet is capable of going from 0-60 miles per hour in as little as 12 seconds.
