Hey everyone! So in this article I will be reviewing the new Mercedes AMG CLA 45s. Well it's basically the same as the A 45 but it looks more like a car for grown ups. Stick till the end to find out what the new CLA has to offer, all it's new features, how it performs, all the specifications and price and see whether or not it's worth your consideration.

Engine

Let's start this review by talking about the new CLA's engine because it is one of the key reasons why this car is so special because it's is the most powerful 2.0 liter 4 cylinder engine to date with a whopping 421 horsepower and a ridiculous 500Nm of torque. This engine drives all four wheels via an eight speed dual clutch automatic gear box. This car obviously is bonkers quick and Mercedes actually claims that this car can go from 0-60 mph in just 4 seconds which is obviously quite nippy.

Brakes

When you have got a car this quick you will definitely be needing some serious brakes to stop it when going at higher speeds therefore the new AMG CLA comes with the biggest brakes fitted to any CLA. So you have got 360mm disc at the front 330mm at the back and the caliper gripping them has six pistons which basically means it's huge. This car can come to a stand still from 70mph in just under 50 meters.

Chassis and suspension

The new AMG gets loads of body bracing in order to make it stiffer than the standard car. The most prominent bracing is the front shock tower brace underneath the bonnet. Underneath the engine you have got a big metal brace as well. There is bracing going through the wind screen and there is diagonal bracing at the front and the back.

The track width of the new AMG is a whole 2mm wider than the standard CLA for better stability however at the back it's actually 5mm narrower.

The CLA 45s gets some upgraded anti roll bar at the front and the back to reduce lean when going through corners and it also gets lowered stiffened suspension and in the UK you get adaptive dampers as standard so you get to chose from three different modes such as hard, harder and harder still. When you are going through a corner it automatically breaks it's inside wheel slightly to get the car rotating to make it feel more responsive.

Exterior design

The CLA being the proper amg rather than the lesser 35 model this car gets the panamericana grill with vertical slats rather than the horizontal ones. It also gets bigger front air vents which by the way look absolutely beautiful but what's not so good about them is that one of them is a real vent and the other is just a fake one.
Alongside the CLA sits lower to the ground than the previous car so it has more imperil look. You do also get 19 inch alloy wheels as standard.

At the back the CLA 45s has deeper more aggressive bumpers when compared to the standard car. The car also has a rear diffuser at the back just like a sports car the plus version also gets a boot lit spoiler which is not actually the right size it's quite small in my opinion. What also looks cool are the quad exhaust pipes but they are actually fake so it can be a bit annoying.

Interior

Inside the CLA there are some key upgrades the first thing you will notice is the sportier steering wheel with a flat bottom and amg printing on it it's got the sports button as well so you can quickly change the driving modes. The sport seats in the new cla are absolutely lovely to sit in they are really comfy and body hugging they also have the seat base extenders if you have longer thighs. You also get aluminium pedals and gear selectors which adds to the car's poshness. As for the interior its quite the same as a CLA which is lovely with all the lovely bits of leather here and there the turbine styled vents look great in my opinion.

Practicality

The new CLA is quite an average car when it comes to practicality. In the back there is decent amount of knee room and poor headroom so taller people would not be able to sit comfortably in the back. Thankfully Mercedes has not compromised on the car's boot it is the same 460 liters which is actually quite nice it's bigger than all it's competitors.

Infotainment system

The CLA 45s comes with the largest infotainment system you also get the all famous augmented reality satellite navigation that puts the live feed of the road ahead and super imposes directions on the screen so that you never take a wrong turn. You also get the ambient lighting with 64 different colors to chose from. There is also dual zone climate control front and rear parking sensors and keyless entry.

Good things about this car

  1. This new CLA uses roller bearings in it's turbo charger so it pulls off quicker there is also this duct which feeds air into the engine to keep it all cool and the engine has a closed deck design so that it can coupe with 2.1 boost pressure from the twin turbo without exploding.
  2. In the UK this car gets a sport exhaust as standard so it's got a valve in it which opens with the press of a button and the good thing is that it does not have a soft limiter so you can rev it all the way to 7000rpm.
  3. Most of the Mercedes cars are electrically limited to 155mph but this car has a speed limit of 174mph as standard.
  4. The seats you get with the plus pack not only have a massage function but they are actually been approved by the AGR spinal health organization.

Trim options

If you pay another 6000 pounds you can get the plus package which has massage seats, led adaptive headlights, burmester stereo sound system and traffic sign recognition and blindspot warning.

Price

As for the price the new CLA starts from about £52000 where the higher models such as the 4matic plus costs a bit more obviously. Still this car in my opinion a better value than the amg E63.
