My Fair Car
In Pakistan, from a young age children are taught how to drive. Often times they are taught how to drive in the villages, or they are taught to drive in secluded areas where there are very few people and very few homes giving the child less opportunity to crash into something. I was taught how to drive recently, something i have wanted to do since as long as I can remember. It was an amazing experience and i am constantly learning new things that will make me a better driver. Out of the three cars parked in my driveway the best car to drive, is the civic turbo. The turbo was Honda Pakistan's first attempt at making a sporty car which could cope under the pressure of daily use. It was discontinued a year after its launch due to high magnesium content in the fuel causing the engines to start knocking. Our car was sent back and detuned and from that point onward I have been trying to convince my father to put performance engine parts in it. Despite the detune the car still goes like stink. I remember my first time driving it on the 23rd of December 2018 in Phase 8. The sharpness of the throttle took me by surprise. My father laughed as it startled me buck he could tell i enjoyed it. I asked him if i could drive it quickly and he said up ahead where there were no speed breakers. I shifted the car into sport mode and engaged the paddle shifters. I floor it and within a couple of seconds the car got up to 83 km/h at which point my dad told me slow down. I felt no fear as i was doing that. A big smile took over my face and i laughed. That was not the same reaction my mother had when i told her about it. She gazed at me sharply and said do not drive fast. I said OK. The reason that the turbo was my favorite was because the other cars were too bland. The Toyota corolla Grande which we have has the engine note of an XLI, its cheaper 1.3 liter counterpart which is unacceptable in my books as the engine in the Grande is much larger and more powerful. and the oriel is not as good to drive compared with the turbo. The turbo has the combination of a great engine note as well as a very punchy little engine, which is lacking in the other cars we have. Honda is still the king of cars in Pakistan, and Toyota has to do a lot of work to match them.
But there are two cars which I really want to drive besides the turbo. The first one is the Toyota Hilux Revo
despite the fact that the name of the Hilux has been spoiled by every terror group, corrupt politician, landowner and police officer who uses them, it is still a great car to drive. It works wonders off-road and has a commanding presence. The second car I want to drive is the Toyota Land Cruiser.
Contrary to what most people might think my dream car is not a Rolls Royce or a Brabus Mercedes but my dream car is the 200 series Toyota land cruiser. The land cruiser has been my favorite car since i was a little boy looking at brand new 100 series cruiser being driving off the lot. The reason that i only got to drive smaller vehicles is due to the government. The government of Pakistan imposed customs taxes which said any vehicle whose engine had a capacity of over 1800ccs would have over 100% percent tax on them meaning that double the cost of the car would be paid. For example a land cruiser costing $85,000 would cost over $170,000 after the customs tax. This is starting price for a Maybach in the United States and that vehicle is much more luxurious than a Land Cruiser. Maybe soon if the government cuts these taxes, I will be finally able to drive my dream car.
