Terrafugia Transition, A New Technology of Flying Car

Updated on July 9, 2010

The world's so complicated. The people have various dreams. For example, they dream to have a car, not only common car. It's more about futuristic car. Have yo ever imagine have futuristic car? I think there are various type of futuristic car. Like: model or shape, material, technology (engine), future (various function) and many more. When we talk about technology, the recent technology from the future car is hybrid car. The recent issue of "global warming" trigger the spirit of people to make environmentally friendly cars or using alternative fuels. "Go green" issue make the people realize in using alternative fuels. The earth so "hot" my friend.

We can saw millions car in the street. And it's growing rapidly every day. The company always produce millions car every day. With many type, new model and many feature were offered to customer. Can you imagine what will happen in the road? Can the road accommodate millions of cars? This hub will find the solution. Please continue to read.......

Don't worry about that. There is a solution for the crowded street which couldn't accommodate millions car. I think this car also became a human's dream. This car will release in 2011. Terrafugia, as a company in Woburn, Massachusetts, USA will release a new car. This car called Terrafugia Transition. The amazing of this car is it has wings. Of course, this car could fly on the sky. Terrafugia transition has weight commuted around 50 kg, exceed the maximum weight capacity for light aircraft.

The good news is Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) give permission to fly for Terrafugia Transition. We can see many rich people buy luxurious cars, Like: Ferrari, Bugatti Veyron, Lamborghini, Bently, Mercedes Benz and many more. All these cars can't fly, right! Said Richard Gersh as a vice director of Terrafugia. As the requirement of the flying car, of course this car has wings. When the car runs on the road, the wings folded upwards. Otherwise, the wings spread when the car has function as a aircraft. During the process, start from design until manufacture Terrafugia always consult with the FAA and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to qualify as an aircraft.

Specification:

  • runway length : 518 meter
  • Power : 4 engines have strength 100-horsepower
  • Length : 5.7 meter
  • High : 2 meter
  • Length when the wings spread : 8.2 meter
  • Fuel : gasoline does not contain reciprocal
  • Maximum speed on the street : 65 mil per hour
  • Maximum speed on the air : 185 km per hour
  • Navigation : GPS through satelite
  • Need 30 second to change the function from car to aircraft.

This is the great solution to reduce congestion in major cities. Terrafugia Transition had been booked out even though the product has not been officially marketed. Although this car worth $ 194,000 (very expensive for me), but 70 buyers has paid the down payment around $10.000. But they have to pay additional money to get more accessories like: GPS (Global positioning service) device, radio, transponder, even parachute. They have to add a couple thousands dollar.

Maximum weight when it takes off around is 648 kilogram, including fuel and passengers. To keep this car, we don't need wide space like hangar. Terrafugia Transition can be stored in the garage of the house because the wings can be folded. Very easy, right! You can also watch the first flight of Terrafugia Transition from the video below.
