Hey! My name is Claudiu Radu and for the past decade years or so, I've been working as an article writer and blogger, among other things.

Launched in 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland, it replaces the Murciélago as the new flagship in the Lamborghini fleet.

Lighter and more powerful than the car it replaces, the Aventador, named according to tradition after a bull, also has a version with a removable roof called the Aventador Roadster.

The critics that blasted the design of Lamborghini's previous supercar: the Murciélago, which they deemed to be too "safe", will surely be silenced by the Jet-Fighter inspired design of the Aventador. Yes, it's not a coincidence that Lamborghini's new supercar looks like a fighter jet, because it was inspired by the F-22 Raptor and F-117A Nighthawk stealth military air crafts.

Remaining on the same route as it's predecessor, the Aventador has a mid-mounted engine and all wheel drive, but has better performances and is a bit more user-friendly than the Murciélago while having better performances and, of course, a more radical exterior design.

It's high-tech too, with a full digital dash, and keeping with the design line of the exterior, fighter jet styled leather interior. As any self-respecting modern supercar, it has three driving settings for all the terrains a Lamborghini is expected to encounter (Strada = road; Sport = well...; Corsa = race;).

An unexpected thing for a Lamborghini is the Aventador's systems designed to improve it's fuel consumption. It has the engine start-stop system and a cylinder deactivation system which, on paper at least, should reduce it's fuel consumption, but don't expect the 6.5 litre V12 producing 690 bhp, that powers the Aventador, to put the Prius out of business any time soon.

The bottom line is, if you've liked the Murciélago, you'll love the Aventador as it's better in pretty much every aspect than it's predecessor.

Is the Aventador a crazy old-school supercar or has it gone soft?

Why is it old school?

With it's improved fuel consumption, luxurious interior, carbon fiber body, you'd be forgiven for thinking that the Aventador is just another technology packed supercar that has lost all of it's excitement and unpredictability in the quest to become more city-friendly.

But you'd be wrong, with more that 2 meters in width and almost 4.8 meters in length it's a nightmare to park and you're not helped by the minute rear window either, also with those dimensions is not a joy to be driven in heavy traffic or trough a narrow street.

Efforts may have been made to make the Aventador more fuel efficient, but let's face it, the 6.5 liter V12 engine won't put the VW Polo out of business any time soon, as its price of around 400 000 $ ( USD ).

Let's not forget the fact that it's exhaust pipes glow red and spit flames every now and then, which can't make it too pedestrian friendly, to say the least.

The fact is, in this time and age, the Aventador is as crazy as cars get, made only to put a huge smile on it's driver's face and to make heads turn as the fighter jet styled supercar drives towards the nearest gas station.

Because of all this, I'd say, yes, the Lamborghini Aventador is an old school
supercar, as its designers chosen radical design and performances over
more sensible features, and who will blame them looking at the finished product.

Technical specifications.

The Lamborghini Aventador LP 700–4 is powered by a 6.5 liter 60° v12 engine, also known under the code name L539, which weighs only 235 kg.

The engine's displacement is of 6,498 cm³ (396.5 cu.in.), producing 700 PS or 690 bhp ( 510 kW ) at around 8250 Rpm. It't maximum torque of 690 Nm ( 510 lb-ft ) comes at around 5500 Rpm.

The power produced by that naturally aspirated v12 engine goes trough a single-clutch 7-speed semi-automatic gearbox that changes gear in 50 milliseconds, before going to the axles and ultimately reaching the four wheels, as the Aventador is all-wheel-drive.

The car is capable, as stated on the Aventador's official web page, of a top speed of around 350 km/h or 217 mph and a 0 - 100 km/h ( 0 - 62 mph ) acceleration of 2.9 seconds.

The weight of 1,575 kg ( 3,472 lb ) is distributed between the front and rear of the car in the following percentages: 43% - 57%.

The Aventador has a combined fuel consumption of 16.0 l/100km and its CO2 emissions are at 370 g/km.

The supercar must stop, so it's been fitted with 6-cylinder brake calipers with Ø 400 x 38 mm ceramic brake discs on the front and 4-cylinder calipers with Ø 380 x 38 mm ceramic discs on the rear.

Like it or not you have to acknowledge the Aventador's performances and radical design, and if you encounter one while driving or while on foot, you will certainly notice it.

Whether you want it for it's striking looks, of amazing performances, the bottom line is: you want it.

So tell me your thoughts concerning the new Aventador in the comments area below and you can also answer the questions featured on the pols.

Also, there's a link to the test the Aventador has "suffered" at Top Gear, as Richard Hammond puts the the Italian supercar through its paces, you may want to check that out.
