Road Warrior Gear

Road Warrior: Necessary Equipment

Here is a list of items you need to be on the road. These are the basic items and things you will need if you are going to be on the road for an extended time. From accessories for your electronics to food and drinks, these are important items that you should consider on long trips or long commutes.

Phone Charger

You will eventually need to tell someone that you will be late or you will be there soon. As we all know, sometimes the phone just doesn't get charged or the charge just won't last you through the day. This is especially true if you do some, ok a lot of surfing. Make sure you check Amazon for some good deal on phone car chargers.

Make sure you read the reviews and get a model that will work with your phone. You might even consider getting a charger that is solar powered in case your vehicle battery dies or the car 12v really gets messed up. This is the case where you would really need your phone. I consider this item to be the most important item in the road warriors arsenal.

Three Little Letters - GPS

GPS is that item most people rely on the phone to provide, however a dedicated unit is the way to go. Sometimes your phone version has trouble finding the signal, but these units dedicated to the purpose will really save the day in a pinch. Also they provide a redundancy in case your phone dies or vice versa. I also recommend having an old school map book if everything else fails.

GPS or Not to GPS?

Do you have a dedicated GPS unit?

Snacks are always great to have around especially if you are stuck in traffic or if you need a boost of energy. I recommend having some sort of drink like vitamin water, ice tea, or Gatorade. Also some sort of dried fruit or trail mix that you can store in your car. I used to even keep my vitamins in the car, except not the gummy type as they all melted into a glob one hot summer day. I recommend some something salty like cashews and something sweet like trail mix with m&m's included in it

Music, Book on CD, Satellite Radio ... oh my!!

There are many options for some good entertainment to keep your mind occupied while driving. Some good examples are getting a series of books on CD you may have wanted to read. This will make the time go much quicker and give you something to look forward to when you step into your car. Another good alternative is some type of satellite radio receiver and service. This service allows you to listen to certain genre of musical interest, which you can usually find a few channels devoted to. Check out some prices and types of satellite radios you can buy for your vehicle below.
