5 Link Building Strategies

Updated on October 17, 2011

Hey All,

My name is Chris Hupp, and I am an Internet Marketing consultant. I love to travel, and have been to 40 of the 50 states as well as over 15 different countries (Thus explaining the picture to the right - Me on my recent trip to Ukraine.) I have been teaching internet marketing for about 5 years and have loved most every minute of it!

That being said, one of the biggest questions/problems my students come across when trying to get found in the search engines is "How do I go about marketing?"

Well besides doing SEO, Below are 5 major link building strategies to get found in the search engines:

# 1 - Live Directories Galore!

As some of you may already know, the best thing to do for a new site is develop links. One of the fastest easiest ways to get those links is through live directories. In my prime I could submit to 4 - 5 live directories every minute.

There are programs you can buy to auto submit to these sites or you can even pay for the links, but if you are on a tight budget here is a site that will definitely help you out:

DirectoryCritic.com

Once you get to Directory Critic you can click on the free directory list. A list of a few thousand live directories will come up and you can submit to your hearts content!

This isn't always the best route though. I would start with 30 submissions, then 10 a day after that.

# 2 - Ping with out the Pong

One extremely important thing to do is submit to Search Engines. This gets you indexed quicker and more thoroughly. You can submit your site map or your just your website.

The good thing about submitting the site map is every page will be annexed and people can access each of your pages more easily.

Now the title "Ping with out the Pong" refers to Pingler.com. This site is a gem! What it does is submit your site out to 72 different searches, most of which are search engines. So it saves you time.

The best Search Engines to submit to are:

  • Google.com
  • Bing.com (MSN's new look)
  • Yahoo.com
  • Altavista.com
  • Ask.com
  • HotBot.com
  • AllTheWeb.com
  • Search.aol.com
  • Lycos.com

There are others to submit to but these are the best in my opinion.

# 3 - Social Networking Anyone?

Out of the thousands of social networking/bookmarking sites there are, I just want to list a simple list of 10.

"Why only 10?"

The answer is because I don't want you wasting too much of your time.

So here is the list:

  • Facebook
  • Youtube
  • MySpace
  • Twitter
  • Delicious
  • Hi5
  • Yahoo Answers
  • MSN (Windows Live)
  • HubPages
  • Squidoo

Bookmarking sites you could continue until you are blue in the face, but Networking sites do you no good if you have a ton of accounts and do nothing on each!

# 4 - Good Articles Produce Good Newsletters

Throughout the internet there are thousands of article sites, and as most internet marketers know you give away something free to hook potential customers. Once they are hooked you can then sell them on multiple products.

One of the great free products that are give to others are articles!

"How is this important to us?"

Most people don't want to write their own articles so they go to places like eZine Articles, Search Warp,  or i Snare to get them. The rules in these sites state that if they want to use the article they have to use it as is.

Getting the picture? Well if not let me paint it a little further:

You write articles and submit them to Article submission sites with your link. They go to the site and use the article in their newsletter of x amount of people. You are now distributed out to so many more viewers. Often these people put the article up on their sites as well. Thus developing another link!

Little work lots of rewards!

# 5 - Forums and Blogs

By this point your mind should be open up to the endless possibilities of link building but if not here is one more thing that can blow your mind!

Let me pose a series of questions:

  • How many blogs and forums are out there about your subject matter?
  • How many of those have high page ranks?
  • How many of those did you have to put any time into?
  • How long does it take to skim a blog post and write a thoughtful comment?

Cha-ching! Almost instant link to higher page rank sites with little effort!
