5 Things Not to Do When Using Uber or Lyft

The cab service has been around for a long time, but ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft have not. They have only been around for around eight years or so. In saying that, these two companies have changed the game and culture of the service completely.

Before, cab drivers were nasty while Uber and Lyft drivers maintain a very polite approached when dealing with their customers. So, the customer in return has learned to be polite as well.

Guess what? There are still many people out there that think they can do whatever they want when they order an Uber or Lyft. This blog is here to let those people know that they need to behave and keep cool. After all, the ride is a lot cheaper than what cab rides used to cost.

1. Do not play your music super loud

Many people love their music and want everyone else to hear it. They want everyone to know that they are super cool by playing their music super loud. Guess what super-loud-music-listeners? That is not cool at all!

Yes, you are paying for a ride, but the ride, the car itself, is not yours for you to abuse. Playing music really loud could be really annoying and disturbing for many people, especially if the music is not like at all!

The driver will be more than happy to play your music, but keep it simple. It is not a nightclub in there. Unless the driver has set up his car to look like a nightclub and try to sell the ambiance as a party scene, one may possibly play his or her music loud.

However, it would still be a big no! Usually, all Uber and Lyft cars will be well-maintained machines and drivers want to keep them that way. So, refrain yourselves from blasting music when using Uber or Lyft, even if you are waisted!

2. Keep your hands to your self

There are only a few things you are allowed to touch when riding an Uber or Lyft. The seatbelts, the seat adjusters, and the windows. Do not go for the console or stereo, because the driver will be imagining a giant ax chopping your freaking hands off.

If you want the AC on, ask for permission. If you want a certain radio station or listen to your type of music, please ask. If that hand goes for any knob, besides the ones that control the windows or the seat adjuster, you might get it slapped.

Also, if there is no auxiliary cord to use for you to torture the driver with your music, do not try to calibrate the Bluetooth. ASK! The driver will always be polite. Touching someone else's car stereo or console is like looking in the fridge without asking. Horrible!

3. Do not expect drivers to bend the rules for you

Many people use the pool option to save money and also expect drivers to go in on their little caper as well. Meaning, some people will order pool but will ask to be dropped off first because they are in a hurry. Unless the system has you as the first drop off, please be quiet and wait your turn.

Some people order pool but demand to be dropped off a bit further than what they entered as the destination. See, pool, or line used with Lyft, is a fixed rate. So, some people like to get that fixed rate, while sharing the car with other passengers, but try to look convincing at the end by asking drivers to drop them off a mile or two more than what they had entered. That is a big no!

Others try to cram three people in a pool ride. Pool or line only allows people to have up to two passengers with one ticket. So, some of these folks try to get a third in for free. When the driver tells them that the ride cannot be completed as a pool, they get pissed off.

They also try to bribe the driver by telling them that the tip will be nice and hefty. BS! Cancel your ride, take the cancellation fee, and order a regular ride. Also, drivers will not bend the rules for you. Drivers have to follow protocol to the tea or else they get deactivated.

Please do not be a super cheapskate! If you can't afford the ride, please take the bus. Seriously!

4. Do not ask drivers to wait for you for a long time at a stop

This one is simple. Some people like to make stops while using Uber or Lyft, which is fine. However, the time that the driver must wait during that stop matters a lot. See, some people might want to get an Uber and go to a restaurant and order food then come out and go home. If that food is not ready during that stop, the driver will try to encourage you to get another ride home.

Here is the reason. Drivers make better money on the miles in the trip and not the time. Drivers only make .12 cents a minute. So, if a driver waits 10 minutes for you, that driver is only making $1.20 for that time, which amounts to $7.20 an hour. That is nothing! A driver can use that time driving someone else and making better money.

So please, do not ask drivers to wait for you for a long time when you have a stop in between. This also includes making drivers wait in line for long drive-thrus or concert entrances.

5. Do not do drugs when using Uber or Lyft

Even though we are in an age where marijuana is mostly legal, do not start smoking in an Uber or Lyft. In fact, rolling a joint inside the car can be a bit rude as well. See, cannabis has a very strong smell, and rolling a joint in a car can leave a strong scent. So, when the next customer jumps on board, they might think that the driver has been smoking or is simply high. Not cool!

Also, people that dabble drugs inside an Uber or Lyft ride can drop something. That could be trouble for the driver. See, a police officer could find that. Even worse, another customer could find that and call the police on the driver.

So please, if you are a party person that uses substances to enhance your fun, stay cool when riding an Uber or Lyft. Keep your stuff safely in your pockets or bags. Cappish!
