3 Ads that fools the viewers!

Updated on September 18, 2013

In simple words, advertisements are means of exposing people to the new products available in the market. This was the main aim and the only aim of advertisements in the earlier days. As the products available increased and competition grew between products, advertisements were made in such a way to attract more customers to stay in the competition. But nowadays the main aim of advertisement is to increase a product’s customer thereby increasing the profit resulting in fooling the people!

Numerous ads can be quoted here as examples of how they fool people and some of them are listed as follows

Fairness cream

Without any doubts everyone wants to look beautiful/handsome and fairness has become a kind of synonym for these words. If we are fair then naturally we tend to become beautiful/handsome. This thought has been the driving force behind these fairness creams. Scientifically the major thing that determines the fairness of an individual is the presence of melanin pigments. The less the melanin pigments the more fairer you become and vice versa. No matter how hard we try to control the amount of melanin pigments we can control it only to a certain level as the amount of melanin pigments is determined by heredity. But these fairness cream advertisements advertise saying they will guarantee twice, thrice and even multiple times the fairness, but the end result is a lot below what they guarantee. And the most foolish thing is that the models acting in the advertisement will become fairer after applying cream such that even their hands and legs will become fair but the models are depicted to apply cream only in their faces!

Body sprays

Body spray advertisements have gone one step further such that they need a clearance certificate from the censor board. Recent body spray advertisements advertise in such a way that if we use those sprays then immediately all the girls/boys in the street will fall for us and some spray advertisements have gone to an extent advertising that even the angels from heaven will fall for us. But we the viewers know who will fall for us if we use those sprays!

Shampoo/hair oils

Shampoos can mainly be classified into anti dandruff shampoo and anti hair fall shampoo. Anti dandruff shampoo advertise in such a way that they remove dandruff completely and prevents them from coming back but at the same time they say it removes visible flakes only. In order to remove only visible flakes why do we need anti dandruff shampoo? Any ordinary shampoo can do it. Also studies suggest that no anti dandruff shampoo can eradicate dandruff completely!

Anti hair fall shampoos and some hair oils advertise saying that they prevent hair fall and also helps in growing the hair thick and long but studies suggest that the main reason for hair to be long is by heredity. So if our ancestors are said to have short hairs then how come we can have long hairs?

Stop fooling!

Though it is very clear that just because of these foolish advertisements people won’t stop buying their products, this is just to show these advertisements that we, the viewers are not fools to believe that the things advertised in the ads will also happen in real life!
