Flowers Bring Cheer !

Help Others "Say It With Flowers!"

Flower Power is harnessed by those who wish to show respect, love, good wishes, thanks in the form of a floral bouquet or an arrangement. Weddings and funerals are never complete without flowers. Event Managers and Wedding Planners are always looking for the best florist to get them the arrangements and bouquets to match their decor and theme. Flowers make a great Corporate gifting idea, the more exotic the better. Wedding planners are known to match up the cake, church altar, church aisle and wedding reception with the brides colours and that includes flowers. As you know, flowers play a major role in enhancing the bride, her bouquet being the major attraction. Flowergirls' wreaths and their baskets, bridesmaids bouquets, best man and groom's boutonnieres, favours are all made to order according to the colour choice and theme. Birthdays, anniversaries, funerals all need flowers. Many pick up some fresh flowers on the way to hospital to bring cheer to a sick person.

Hotels and restaurants have an inhouse florist but sometimes they outsource floral arrangements. Hospitals and companies also outsource their requirement of floral arrangements.

Come Valentine' Day, and every passionate individual makes his/her way to a florist shop on the way to see his beloved. Red roses are a sellout on such occasions and are most expensive. The holiday season also sees extra sales of flowers. According to season and demand, a florist can safely earn huge profits every month of the year. It pays for a florist to update on new floral designs and learn to market himself well. Advertising in Free Classifieds gives the much needed exposure to someone starting off in this small business. Having an online presence with a website certainly ups one's sales, but if you wish to deliver outside your city or country, it would be profitable to tie up with a florist in that city, as flowers lose their charm if they are not delivered fresh and on time.

What does it take to Invest in a Florist Business?

A small business entrepreneur such as a florist needs a good location, one that is visible from the street for passersby to flock in once they are attracted by your arrangements in the shop window. But, I also know of some moms @ home who have a successful flower business right from home. All it takes is a bit of networking and word of mouth advertising apart from being listed in the local classifieds. Repeat customers are important to this business. So, being innovative and creative is necessary. Setting up shop requires you to get some florist supplies, such as scissors, different kinds of decorative paper, stylish vases and baskets of different sizes & shapes, in addition to greeting cards and ribbons in various hues. Attending some classes for flower arrangement helps one to be more confident. Delivery boys will be necessary if you are planning to offer door delivery. Having your own website that displays your creations according to the season, ensures that you do not miss out on the business generated online. Several florists have set up shop online and are doing brisk business 24x7.

Flower Business In India

Indian farmers grow a variety of flowers that are used everyday. Weddings are elaborate and decorated with huge buntings made exclusively with flowers such as jasmine, marigold, roses adorning the entrance to the Kalyan Mantap (wedding hall) to welcome guests. Flower decorators are in great demand during the wedding season and have to be booked atleast a month in advance. Each guest is welcomed with a rose or a string of jasmine flowers to wear on the hairdo. The bride is made to wear a long plait and adorned with fragrant jasmine buds elaborately decorated and woven onto long aromatic leaves. The bridal couple is made to exchange jasmine garlands before the wedding ceremony. And for every function of marriage(marriage is a 3 day affair for the Hindus), flowers play an integral part. The first night is an elaborate affair with baskets of flowers being strewn all over particularly the bridal suite.

Hindus perform pujas (rituals) in their homes and in temples, where flowers are offered to dieties. Most households buy strings of flowers everyday for this purpose. Any function of birth, death, anniversary, religious festivals or just to adorn one's hair, flowers are used. This is one business idea on which several households are making a living out of. A member of the household makes a daily trip to the wholesale market to purchase baskets of marigold or jasmine or any other flower. On reaching home, other members of the family sit around to string the flowers into garlands or long strands which are rolled into a huge pile onto a wide wicker basket, which is then carried off to the local market to be sold in measures of "an arm's length". Another huge pile of flowers are taken to homes which buy on a daily basis and pay only once a month. Garlands are hugely popular in welcoming guests and showing respect to celebrities and political figures.

Florists are aplenty as well in Indian cities. Wedding couples are gifted with a large floral bouquet these days as also for birthdays and anniversaries. Every office and institution has a requirement for floral arrangements at least twice a week. There are florists who take up annual contracts from such large corporates and supply arrangements on credit every month. Most work out of home or a small shop in a basement where the rental is low.

On the whole, a florist or flower seller brings cheer and makes huge profits out of it.
