How Do I Sell My Music Or Songs On Itunes Or? - Spotify Hot Topic!!

Updated on July 9, 2013

Get On Itunes

In the past, the major record companies have controlled every aspect of the creation, marketing and distribution of music. With the advent of the Internet, that power has now swung into the hands of the independent artists needing to get their music to the general public. The difference between now and 10 years ago is all about opportunities. We as musicians have never had an opportunity to truly have creative control of the artform we choose to produce and create. Thankfully things have, and are changing for the better.

In this new digital revolution of music, knowledge gives you the power to create your opportunities. So with that being said, let's now talk about the major player in the music business right now and that's Apple iTunes.

A few years ago, getting on iTunes Or Spotify meant going through hell and back with some independent distributor, and not having a surefire guarantee that your music would even end up on the iTunes roster. But I have good news for you, right now there's a company that can get your music into iTunes, Amazon MP3, Emusic and Rhapsody at an amazing price.

The reason why I am writing this article is because it's important to me to see music get back into our hands, and into the ears of people wanting to listen to good music. As artists it's up to us to control our artform and give the people exactly what they want.

So How Do I Sell My Music Or Songs On Itunes?

The company is called SongCast, and to say that they are amazing is an understatement. What I've done is some research with a few of the major players in the business and have found as far as price, SongCast really can't be beat.

While most companies offer a package to get you on iTunes you usually have to e-mail the music to the company, or you have to mail in a CD. At SongCast all you have to do is upload your music and SongCast will do the rest.

The biggest selling point for me has been the fact that they offer the option to just sell singles. Which for a lot of us that's how we market music anyway.

Here are a few of the frequently asked questions.

How does it work?
First, you will need to create your SongCast account.
Once you have an account you will:

  1. Submit album information - Tell them your album title, song and track listing, etc.
  2. Upload your album cover - Each download retailer wants to display your album cover on their sites. Your album cover must be at least 600 x 600 pixels in dimension and in RGB Color Mode. The accepted file types are JPG, GIF and PNG.
  3. Upload your music - You will upload all of the songs for your album onto their secure servers, where they will convert them into many different formats, as each download retailer has different formatting standards. They handle all of this on their end. All you have to do is upload your music one time and they do the rest.

Do I give up any rights to my music?
No! You maintain the rights to your music and recordings at all times. SongCast is not a record company. We are simply a distribution service that puts your music up for sale on digital download sites.

I've submitted my album now what?
Now they start getting your music out to the download retailers. As soon as your music starts showing up on the various sites, this is what happens:

People buy your music - Well that's your job, but you already know you will promote it to get your sales up.

Retailers send payment - Your royalties will appear in your SongCast account on the 20th of every month. Once that happens, you can withdraw your money at anytime via PayPal.

Retailers send sales data - Along with your money, the retailers will send them your sales data and a breakdown of how your music is selling. Mostly this includes detailed info, song by song and store by store, which can be accessed from your SongCast account.

Can I submit cover songs or songs with samples?
Yes you can! You'll need to find out who the publisher of the song is and get permission. There are three key places to check for this information; ASCAP, BMI & SongFile.

How much do I get paid?
Pretty much wherever you go to sell online, most retailers are very similar in what they'll pay the you. For the most part you'll earn an average of $6.00-$7.00 per full length album sale or anywhere from 60-70 cents per track. SongCast Artists and Labels maintain all of their royalties. <-- Love That!!!

Take Action And Start Your Music Career NOW!!!!!

As you can see this as an amazing offer which I'm currently using myself for my album. I hope this helps you, and I wish you luck in your music career.  Unlike most people that will try to sell you on a some site for you to sell your music, I'm actually using them!  Don't believe me just look up "trajick sacrifice" itunes in google and you'll see me promoting my album!! I'm not going to tell you about a service I'm not willing to use myself!! lol

So my advice is to again, register now and start finalizing your music to be uploaded at a later date.  Some people will just save the link, wait and forget about it. But, since you've read this entire thing, I know you're actually serious.  This is why I took the time to write this in the first place, I really want to see serious artists get closer to their dreams.  One thing I've learned is that if you take that first step forward, you'll never find yourself going backwards!!

The link of the website is below, and hope to see your music on iTunes soon.

As this it can be quite difficult getting your songs online. Using aggregates and partnership companies is the best way to get your song into iTunes, Google Play, Beats Music, Amazon MP3, Spotify, X Box Music etc contact them direct and inquire about doing so. This is who i use to get my tracks online:
