How To Use Craigslist

Craigs list is a very popular advertising site that became prominent under 10 years ago with it's popular area listings across all the states of America, but then it started to add other countries to the listings which grew the site and it became even more popular, but quite possibly there are three distinct advantages to using Craigslist.

Advertising Through Craigslist

The main reason why people use Craigslist is the advertising aspect to it, businesses use it to advertise their products and services so they can reach a larger audience that could be targeted to a local area and plus it's free to use too, plus there is no need to drive traffic to the site as people view the ads on a daily basis, in fact, the site gets in excess of 12 million visitors per month,  who in turn generate nearly 4 and a half billion page views per month.

The amount of traffic you can get from a small handful of ads at Craigslist is amazing, if however you do it right, the ads are the best thing, as you have to think about what keywords to write in your ad and what you want to say, and it' best to think long and hard about it, the opening few sentences are the most important, as is what you link to with your keyword anchor text, make it all count.

Meeting And Greeting Other People on Craigslist

What many people like to do is to meet new people on Craigslist and you can do so in several ways, some use the personals to connect with others to date others or just create some good friendships, whilst I think everyone needs to meet new people, I don't think the personals section is safe, but if you take the right precautions and do everything right, you can just meet other people to have a laugh or just make new friends, although quite rightly you have to be 18 years of age to use the personals section of the site.

Plus the many niche discussion forums Craigslist has is great as you can join only the ones that you are interested in and join in the discussions with others on there, this in itself is a great way of meeting people and getting to know others who may share your hobby or other interests, although some forums are known to get either spammy or rather frustrating with all the opinions flying around, so you may get other forum posters who may just start trouble and these are known as trolls or flamers, so just avoid these nuggets and enjoy the forums there.

Job Hunting at Craigslist

Looking for work online is another popular reason why many people look on Craigslist for jobs, as you can search using the search function to locate specific jobs in each category, so that you can find a job of your choice and it's best to look on the job boards daily as new job opportunities are posted on there every day anyway.

Anyone seeking a job could however post their CV/resume to be shown on Craigslist, although the thought of posting contact information may not be for some, you could simply provide an email address for any potential employers to contact you directly, all you might have to do is write a very detailed and descriptive resume that stands out and will be found by those who will search for specific job employees, such as admin, officer or labourer, you might want to type in your last job or current one.

When you use Craigslist, make sure you avoid scams and read anything that others say about how to protect yourself from any scams and also read the personal safety tips too, because this is a site that you do need to be careful with, like any other, but generally if you follow the posting rules and take into account all the other advice, you should be okay with Craigslist

Yes with these kinds of services you do need to exercise caution as there are some unscrupulous people out there who want nothing more than to trash other people and hurt them. Always use common sense when selling something on Craigslist and always were possible try and use a middle man or a delivery agent to facilitate the transaction. Be safe everyone!

Great hub. I think I will use your advice to promote my hubs. As for the job hunting, apparently this is a very dangerous practice for identity theft. Also by collecting information on where you live and work, phone numbers. the ads are apparently phoney job ads. I know someone who went to a recent job hunting seminar and the government officials sponsoring the job fair were very insistent about people given out their personal information on Craiglist. I have use the list to sell all sorts of stuff, but you have given me an idea on how to promote my hubs.

      thanks

That's a great point Suzie, trying to put your ads in other parts of the world is a good idea.

I use Craig's List quite a lot though I basically stay away from the nasty forums. I sometimes put links to my work in China and get some traffic from there.
