For a lot of people the monotony of their jobs is a huge motivator for a career change. One of the main giveaways that an employee is tired of their current job is when they start counting down the time until end of work day.

Switching careers is a big change usually with irreversible consequences. Due to its sensitive nature, you should only change your career path after much thought and deliberation. You will need to consider the reasons why you choose to change career path not to mention responsibilities that you might have such as family. When considering changing your profession weigh your strong points against your weak points as this will give you an unbiased opinion of whether to change career path.

To help you determine whether a career change is necessary and how to go about it, here are a couple of tips:

Evaluate your Strengths and Weaknesses

In determining whether your current profession is making maximum use of your strengths, draw two columns on a sheet of paper with one indicating your strengths and the other indicating your weakness.

Carry Out a Self-Evaluation

This will include asking yourself pertinent questions before making a final decision on whether to change career path. Such questions include:

  • Does your career involve repetitive activities that are boring?
  • Do you see yourself having a better job or simply doing something totally different all together?
  • Do you still have your career goals in sight?

By honestly answering these questions, you will have a better idea of what you want.

You could also take a career test to find out what the most suitable career is for you. This will involve appraising your personality, interests and skills online. By taking these tests you will be provided with a career list that's suited to you.
