What is Magnetic marketing? How does it affect your life?

What is magnetic marketing and how does it help in life and business? This is the art of creating friendships with prospective customers thus putting the marketer in a position to tell instead of sell. People are more likely to trust, when a friend lets them know what is available as apposed to trusting a “salesman” they just met. They market themselves not any product or service. The knowledge they possess about whatever product the offer at the time is usually pretty remarkable. Many know enough to offer choices. The smart ones find a way to earn income off much of the information they share. A magnetic marketer will position themselves as the “go to” person.

Friend status means contact

They create lasting friendships with clients. Not like best friend status, but by spending a few seconds or minutes to keep themselves in the clients mind. Sometimes they will share information of a personal nature from which they gain little or nothing because they know their friend will contact them when they do need any kind of information. They listen to and learn from their “friend” and take what they have learned to find new ways to benefit.

Learn by listening

An example of this is from a conversation last night. Someone we know is paying his way though college by tattooing people. It’s really not something that interests us personally. We did Spend time listening and came away with information which can be used to help someone who is interested. While listening he showed an expertise beyond anything we could imagine.

Show and tell

When the conversation was guided to other areas we did find common interests which could be mutually beneficial in the near future. He wants a larger following for his work. My area of expertise is branding. This includes social media, website design, and marketing. The outcome of a thirty minute conversation is we each have a new “go to” person for our respective area’s of expertise.

Magnetic Marketers are part of our everyday lives

This holds true in every aspect of life, step into your own shoes for a moment. Look at your life and try to locate the magnetic marketers in it. Who do you “go to” when you want or need something.? How many times do you have to talk to a stranger because you don’t know anyone who can help? What do you do? Do you call someone who knows something and listen to what they have to say or do you just call that stranger? Most of us as a rule contact someone who we think has the answer. This person in each case is one of our magnetic marketers.

How can I become a magnetic marketer

To become a magnetic marketer you want to turn yourself into the “go to” person. Then you will be the one who gets the call. Everyone has some area of their life in which they excel. This is your area of expertise. Never force it upon anyone, there is usually no need. If you are truly listening you will find out what a person's needs really are. Magnetic marketing is not about you. It's listening to the needs of others then finding a way to fill that need. Listening is something most people have to practice. Once you realize you can gain, including quite often financially it becomes easier. After you learn to listen its not hard to start guiding a conversation. Listening and guiding are the magnetic marketers tools

How do I answer a question if I don't know

Think about the questions people are asking you today and learn answers to them so you have the best information. Always remember to think back within your own life. Chances are you have dealt with a similar problem before or know someone who has. How was that problem resolved? If you truly don’t know the answer say give me a few (minutes, hours) and spend some time researching.

You can do it yourself or pass the research to a trusted friend. Make sure to get back to the person whether you found their answer or not. Either request more time of refer them to someone who knows more than you do. This works on many levels, you told the truth which all good magnetic marketers do. It also lets the person know you care enough to spend time looking for the answer to their question or problem. If you truly can’t find the answer at least you care enough to let them know, or you have referred them to a person who has the answer

The inspiration for this article came from websites owned by Ryan Deiss and Jay Kanic, It also includes information learned during conversations with Warren Contraras and Derek Townsend who are mid level magnetic marketers. They are also two of our personal mentors. Personal experience, learned during years in business also came into play. This article was originally written in reply to a question raised when answering an email written by Donna Phelps a business associate.

If anyone ever wondered how to have success with their business you just shared one of the most important tips. I call it relationship marketing. Sometimes a person will join your team right away, but these days most people really want to know they are investing with someone who is going to invest in them too. It's about Trust...

A special branding note to those hubbers who find this. Never write only one article to a niche. To be a magnetic writer you have to prove you know your stuff.

If you are branding yourself as an expert in any area people need to know you have more than one article on the subject. Google looks at this too. Although I have one article in a niche it is still receiving visitors. It has dropped significantly lately because it is the only article.

Brett A good way to find out about personal branding would be to write a hub pages question. This way those who read it and comment will gain also. Ask what you want to know as specificly as possible.

We are connected now on IBO. I have been to your websites and was writing a comment when I saw that you had asked for association. Even for hubbers social media has gained importance. Engaging comments and shares give us more value in a search engines eyes.

No need to speak to you about that Brett. People here call you MR. share himself. We hope you have learned to add a tracker to what you share.

I think I have sent you a request on IBOsocial, so hopefully that will work. If not, maybe drop me a line on one of my websites ... they are listed on my profile.

As for finding me online, you will find Brett Tesol in a few places ... it is always me. However, I don't put my real name online, as I used to deal with fraud cases and have seen a lot of problems that leaving real info online caused. Maybe it is overly cautious, but it is how I like to do things lol.

Sorry for not making it clearer. You might not become close friends with everyone, you do want to make sure you are there for them when they need or want something. Maybe not instantly, as soon as possible when you are aware they want or need help though.

It can even be like our association. We have followed each others work to some extent for what? over a year now. Hub pages contains nothing when you look at all the places I have posted articles.

I have shared your articles in my facebook groups, the groups of others, twitter, pinterest, I think I even have one on Linked in.

Some of what you write has value to my friends and followers and I personally enjoy reading your work. You are my "Go to person" for "sharing" and foreign travel.

I am not hard to reach. My name, writers nickname, company, and corporate name can all be searched. Between them all there is no doubt in my mind there are at least a thousand pages with my information on them.

I have live chat buttons on two of my websites including the picture site that was created for fast pictures for hubbers. A few hubbers and others have added their pictures to the website to give more diversity.

We have hubber friends on StumbledUpon, Pineterest, Twitter, Facebook, Google + and one on Linked In.

I have personally spent hours trying to figure out what your real name is. I think it is sad when two like minded people can't become real friends.

You raise some valid points. I also think it is important to treat someone like a friend and provide ongoing help, rather than a customer aiming for that quick sale. What do you do in branding? Online marketing? Maybe you could drop me some info, as I'm expanding my online sites and marketing facilities.

Shared, pinned, tweeted, up and useful.

If you have learned anything then my job is done. There are 5,190,000 websites pertaining to this subject on the internet. It is truly amazing you learned it here first.

Very interesting. I've come across the term before, but never fully understood what it was all about. Know I know what magnetic marketing actually is and how to apply it.

      Great hub! Thank you!
