How to detect bullying at the work place?

Updated on March 21, 2013

Bullying at work is like cancer, if it goes unnoticed it has detrimental consequences to the abused.Take notice of it and bring the culprits to book. Bullying at work place can unravel in various forms and shades. If your boss is always criticising you for no specific reason, it's a tell- tale sign that the boss is after your soul and is a bully. It is mind boggling and stressful to be yelled at everyday when you are working hard like anyone else.

If the boss deliberately excludes you from a staff meeting when everyone is going for the meeting, it clearly shows you are being targeted, isolated and bullied. How can a staff meeting go ahead without you when you are working under the same roof? One can smell a rat. It doesn't add up.If the boss doesn't give you many shifts when everyone else is having plenty of shifts it tells a story, you are being bullied. When ever you request for something from your boss it is turned down without any explaination. If this happens know for real you are being taken for a ride and being bullied.

The boss is always angry with you, even if you haven't done anything wrong. He/she is fond of humiliating you in public and swears at you non-stop in public. This sums it all the boss is a bully and is bullying you. Name calling like "choc- ice" - a black man in a white heart are all signs of bullying. If your boss calls you,fat pig. It is disgusting and indeed it is a form of bullying.

If you are given too many responsibilities at work whilst you are not paid a penny for it or being promoted, it goes to show that the boss is playing second fiddle with you and is a bully.Being marginalised on the basis of race, colour or creed, is an indicator that the boss is a bully. If the boss sets unrealistic targets and deadlines, it is a raw deal and the boss is bullying you.

If vacant posts for promotion are not disclosed to you whilst others are given the application forms,it goes to show that you a the lost and black sheep of the company and the boss is bullying you. It doesn't need spectacles to see that the boss is a bully and doesn't like you or want you to progress professional.Don't suffer in silence expose these bullies, everyone deserves to be treated fairly and just at work.

Thank you. Bullying in the workplace is a very important issue. I have been bullied out of a job, so was a friend of mine, and, many years ago, the same thing happened to my father. I would add only one thing - it is not only bosses who bully. My friend was actually driven out of a job by someone who worked under him.
