Inspired to reach your goals - personal development

Updated on October 1, 2011

Are you inspired to achieve your goals?

A highly inspired and motivated person can achieve much. “Without inspiration, the best powers of the mind remain dormant. There is a fuel in us which needs to be ignited with sparks." - Johann Gottfried Von Herder.

Yes, we need inspirational thoughts, but I think we need more than inspiration to reach our goals. Inspiration is to be found in every corner; we are inspired by things we see or hear. Inspiration needs to be sustained if you want to reach your goals. To be inspired is to be passionate about what you are doing in order to achieving something. Every day, we find many people around us starting so many things, but never completing them. Finding inspiration is the easiest thing. To sustain inspiration and to reach our goals calls for a lot of self-motivation, determination and direction of purpose.

Achieving goals - never give up

People who are always looking for motivation and inspiration from external sources are the ones who beat the retreat and resign themselves to their fate.

Most of us start off on a project on an impulse or a fancy. We do not put much thought to it, much less planning and we just jump into these things because they were the newest and coolest things to do at that moment. These impulsive ventures are bound to fail, because they have just enough energy for a quick start but are never enough to carry you through all the difficulties that come your way.

Being unaware and unprepared to face difficulties and obstacles that might come in the way is another reason why we fail or give up.

Being poorly informed or having incomplete information could be a primary reason behind this.

People often get frustrated because they set their expectations very high and in an unrealistic way.

Another reason would be that we never give ourselves enough room for error.

Intrinsic motivation and inspiration to achieve goals

Inspiration works to gets things started; without inspiration we become stagnant. Waiting for others to appreciate us all the time is never going to produce fruit. People are busy with their own lives and nobody has the time to constantly appreciate your efforts and encourage you all the time unless you are a child. As adults, we are expected to find our niche of interests, our passion and be fired by it. So if one needs to remain inspired- one needs to be passionate about what they are doing.

You not only have to have enough interest in the subject, but your interest should have an emotional content - you really need to desire to reach the goal. In other words, have passion for what you do, so much so that you think, dream, eat and sleep around the object of your passion. Your passion drives you to your goal.

You have to be self-motivated or self-driven. Being driven by others often produces negative results. Even though you feel you are being helped and encouraged at first, prolonged attention from others is often perceived as “nagging”. This often turns counter- productive.

Self-motivation or intrinsic motivation is the only way to keep the inspiration and the level of interest in the project we have started till the end. Find your motivation and stay motivated.

Tips to keep your inspiration and be self-motivated to achieve your goals.

“Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.” Vincent Van Gogh.

Give thought to what you want to do and narrow your area of interests.

Your inspiration helps you get attracted to a particular area of interest.

Make sure that this is not just a passing fancy, but it is something that really like and would love to work on over along period of time.

Now that you have ascertained your area of interest set out to gather as much knowledge as possible.

Narrow down your interests, and as you go about gathering knowledge, you will find certain fields which you are truly interested in. Gather more information and develop your knowledge base around these areas.

It is easy for you to now decide on what you want to do and to set your goals. Be specific and realistic about your goals.

Decide the time frame within which you would like to reach your goals, and once again, be realistic.

Keep the level of inspiration and intrinsic motivation high

Constantly updating your information from the internet, media, various seminars and researches in that particular field and keeping yourself posted with the latest developments and technology in that area all help you sustain your interest over a long period of time and help you remain inspired, highly motivated and passionate about what you are doing.

Another way of building up your interests and inspiration is to find and keep those things that first inspired you in front of you so that you remain inspired every day.

Keep company with people who are self-motivated, highly inspired and goal- oriented. These people constantly spread inspiration and motivation around them. You are always inspired in the presence of someone like that.

Another way of building up your interests and inspiration is to find and keep those things that first inspired you in front of you so that you remain inspired every day.

Be creative and think out of the box - this would help you sustain your interest for longer periods of time.

Very often, people think so much but never get down to doing. Stop thinking and jump into doing. Review your progress periodically.

Have fun, yes, have fun doing what you do otherwise you will neither have the inspiration to do it nor the motivation to carry you through till the end.

Celebrate your successes: Make sure to celebrate each milestone you achieve; this process of attaching happiness or good cheer to your achievements will make all the hard work seem worthwhile.

Learn from your mistakes and move on. Never stop to pity yourself.

Another wonderful way to keep yourself motivated is to teach others who are new to the field or who have less knowledge in that area.

Teaching brings out that dormant passion in you. It also clarifies your thought processes and makes you logical in your approach. When you help others and motivate them, you intrinsically get motivated.

Be a winner impossible is nothing.

Some great inspirational quotes

I would like to end this with thoughts from these great thinker:

"Nothing great is ever achieved without enthusiasm" - Ralph Walder Emerson.

“The will to win, the desire to succeed, the urge to reach your full potential- these are the keys to personal excellence” Eddy Robinson.

“Lack of direction , not lack of time, is the problem. We all have 24 hour days.” Zig Zigler.

Yes we have time- if we have the inspiration, the direction, the motivation and the passion to carry us through, all goals can be reached!!
