Manage Your Time Working from Home
Is it possible to manage your time and stay productive while working from home? Sure it is! Here are some (hopefully) helpful hints.
Contending with your calendar
Admit it, working from home can sometimes leave you feeling a little overwhelmed. Staying productive can overshadow something as simple as remembering to stay organized. Sitting at our desk/at our dining table/on our couch can cause us to forget our old friend...the calendar.
Managing your calendar while still working from home can greatly benefit your productivity. In other words, never leave your calendar blank.
Take one day of the week for calendar management/planning. Add due dates, reminders, and be sure to prioritize tasks. This will help make certain all your plans and tasks are completed in a timely manner.
It's easy to get bogged down and lose focus while working from home. Because of this, it is vitally important you maintain a daily routine.
Get up at your normal time and go through your morning routine. Get dressed and ready for your workday (No Sweatpants!). It's important to get dressed for work, even when you don’t have video meetings scheduled. This will give your brain the illusion of regular work and help you to remain productive.
Managing your time is also of utmost importance. Scheduling small breaks throughout the day is necessary. Get up, stretch your back, give your eyes a break from the computer, and drink plenty of water. Fend off the urge to eat snacks and instead, take a normal lunch break. Stick to your schedule. Use a Pomodoro timer like 'Focus Keeper' in the App Store or in the Play Store on Apple and Google respectively. This is a tremendous help in keeping you focused on task and getting those much-needed breaks in.
