Birth of a Workflow Toolbar

As a mobile based business owner, the creator often found himself using multiple browsers and workstations in the course of his work. When using a "foreign" computer, he often lost productivity by having to hunt for resources that were usually saved neatly in his highly customized browser and bookmark collection. This was unacceptable. So he set out on a mighty and arduous mission to create a resource that could encompass all his needs and yet still be accessible "in the cloud"

Out of this adversity the Online Writers Toolbar was born. Within its tiny confines contains all the dashboards, sites, custom seo searches and informational resources for any Online Writer, SEO or Site Developer to quickly create and pound out their daily tasks.

Custom Search for SEO and Resource Aquisition

The Online Writers Toolbar includes its own Custom Search engines, they are as follows:

Research Tools

  • HubPages Site Search
  • Google
  • Bing
  • Creative Commons Image Search
  • Wikimedia Public Domain Image Search
  • Amazon Product Search

These simple search engines allow one to replicate the inbuilt Firefox search when using Chrome, IE or Safari (The toolbar works with all 4 major browsers)

The Image searches are invaluable for quickly finding and acquiring images which you have full rights to use.

SEO Tools

The custom search includes three pre-written Google Advanced Operators which are often used by SEO Professional's when doing Competitive analysis.

  • allinurl:"search"
  • allintitle:"search"
  • allinanchor:"search"

In addition the custom search can be used to search "this site" which will automatically search the whole expanse of the domain you are viewing using the advanced operator site:"current domain"

Developer Tools

  • Wordpress Plugin Directory

There is almost always, "a plugin for that" Now when the idea takes hold you can search right from your toolbar.

Dedicated Tabs to the Online Writers Toolbar 2012

THE HP (Hubpages) Tab

The first featured Tab is marked HP - as the reigning king of Writer's sites it gets top billing.

The HP Tab features quick links to:

  • HP Forum
  • HP Feed
  • Start a New Hub

As long as the user is signed in, these links will bring one directly to the appropriate page within the site, combined with the Hubpages custom search option and The HP stats feature in the dedicated Stats tab this toolbar is truly a workflow powerhouse for users who find themselves spending much of their time or productivity writing hubs.

The Stats Tab

Admit it, you're a stats junkie - we all are

The Stats Tab features quick links to:

  • HP Stats
  • Google Analytics
  • Wordpress Stats
  • Google Webmaster Tools
  • Bing Webmaster Tools

Now, you can get your stats fix or your daily keyword mining out of the way with minimal keystrokes in a more productive manner.

Many users of the Wordpress platform utilize the Stats Plugin which is now a part of the Jetpack package. This plugin is one of the most used and most referenced in the "must have" lists. Using the Stats plugin requires an account with Many may not realize that every time they authorize a new site for the stats plugin, it is registered in their stat dashboard. Using the integrated Wp Stats link you can now view ALL of your wordpress sites that utilize the plugin without having to log into each site.

Hows that for a productivity boost?

The Affiliate Tab

The only thing you might check more than your Stats is earnings!

The Affiliate Tab features quick links to:

  • Adsense Dashboard
  • Amazon Associates Dashboard
  • eBay Partner Network Dashboard
  • Shareasale Affiliate Network
  • Commission Junction Affiliate Network
  • Viglink Affiliate Network
  • CPA Networks

Check your accounts, find new vendors and advertisers, do it quickly and easily any time an idea jumps to mind.

(future updates will include Zazzle , ALLPOSTERS and other networks suggested by our current users)

The Write Tab

Its the Ultimate Writers Toolbar and this tab proves it

The Write tab is dedicated to three major headings:

  • eMail
  • Revenue Sharing Sites
  • Guest Posting

If you need to quickly fire off an email; gmail, hotmail and yahoo mail are featured with quick links. If you use another provider you can utilize the "email notifier" option which will be discussed later.

Revenue Sharing Sites:

13 sites are currently featured in the Revenue Sharing site section of the Writers toolbar, including stalwarts like Hubpages, Squidoo and Infobarrel and extending to brand new contenders Zujava, Wizzley and Xobba. You can click the image below to see full size image of the toolbar and the write tab and read the entire current selection or simply install the toolbar and get started exploring on your own.

Guest Posting:

Utilizing sites that allow Guest Posting is a great way to gain exposure and show off your writing chops and expertise for existing user bases in established sites. This section will grow greatly over time. In fact send me an email or leave a comment if you have a Guest Post resource of your own.

The Social tab

Social media is here to stay an dis a great way to stay connected with recent news, industry tips or just kill time and brain cells sending me application requests for the latest stupid survey, chain mail or annoying game application .. but, I digress.

Social Tab

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Google+
  • LinkedIn
  • Pinterest

In addition to those social media networks, a sub heading for revenue generating (but Pandalyzed) sites Xomba, SheToldMe and Redgage exists for those still active in those communities.

Note: Pinterest is proving to be hugely popular, one of the owners of Hubpages recently shared that Pinterest had broken the top ten in referring sites.

The Keyword Tab

The Keyword Tab features:

  • Adwords Keyword Tool
  • Youtube Keyword Tool
  • Keyword Academy
  • The Challenge
  • Longtail Keyword Free
  • SEO Power Suite Free
  • MicroNicheFinder
  • SEOmoz
  • Majestic SEO

Some are training courses in the keyword field, either free or offering cheap trials, some are premium tools that offer lite versions or web based versions. All are strong performing industry leaders.

Note: Yahoo Site Explorer is no more. This accounts for the (short lived) major loss in functionality to Market Samurai and the "-" 's one sees in SEO Quake. Majestic SEO is the best replacement for that tool and they do allow a limited number of free searches a day.

IM Library

The IM Library is HUGE! and grows frequently. One can find quick links to all the major SEO forums and blogs (Matt Cutts Blog --> Webmaster World) , links to the top marketing blogs in the world (Chris Brogan, Seth Godin etc.) and the major forums of the Internet marketing and online writing fields (Warrior Forums, Digital Point, Hubpages etc.)

Dedicated sections for eBook publishing, Wordpress developers and Freelance Job Boards will be rolled out in the near future.

These are the resources that everyone in this industry should have at least passing familiarity with.

Indie and Kindle Book Publishing

As Promised, an eBook Publishing Module has been added.

Under eBook Publishing you can now find direct links to:

  • Amazon Kindle Publishing Dashboard - Submit Books and Check Sales Reports
  • Nook Pubit! Dashboard
  • Smashwords Dashboard
  • Createaspace Dashboard

It was important to create a toolbar that would allow for the substitution of some other common add-ons that both regular users and power players depend on.

Online Writers Toolbar - Facebook Integration (click for full size)

Facebook Integration

Using Facebook Connect one can log into Facebook once and then use the toolbar to keep tabs on your daily messages and notifications without having to actually enter the site.

Facebook mobile users should recognize these settings as matching the top menu on your phone applications.

Useful, Quick, Facebook is fully integrated.

Including a useful "share" link you can use to pass on great articles, like this one, to all your friends that would love to use it too. The "share" feature is a bit more featured than "like" and allows one to add comments before posting as if you were posting a new link manually on your wall.

I took a look at the minimalist firefox themes but was reluctant to install one because I was unable to figure out which one to use. Can you say a little bit more about these and recommend one or two??

    • sunforged profile image

      sunforged 6 years ago from

hmmm.. any of those concerned with "clutter" - do you see the screenshots of my browser?

where is the clutter? Sure an empty desk looks nice, but its pretty lame to have to walk to the closet to get a pen each time you need it.

This is a properly organized fully stocked desk with zero clutter, only tools

I understand an anti-toolbar feeling, especially considering how many crappy ones get force installed on users these days (ask toolbar/yahoo toolbar come to mind) but unless you already have worked out add-ons and custom engines on your own, you probably have no idea what a browser can be used for these days! no joke.

I agree on the screen real estate issue, Austinstar, as a result I tried to add many of the features that may allow users to shed less featured toolbars in their current setup.

Currently, I use this toolbar with a customized addition of all my own sites and the web developer toolbar, I hide the web developer toolbar when not actively designing a site.

I also use a very minimalist theme for Firefox, so much less screen real estate is used by the base program. Thats something to look into if your not doing it already - check the for "Minimalist Firefox Themes" bet you ll find one you like

    • Austinstar profile image

Lela 6 years ago from Somewhere in the universe

I'm not too fond of toolbars since they take up valuable space on the screen. Looks like I have most of these sites already bookmarked, but there are a few new ones. I'll give it a go.
