Justin W. Price is a freelance writer, blogger, and award-nominated author based out of Juneau, Alaska.

While I generally focus my hubs on literary and academic issues, I would like to break away from that for this hub and share some ways that I have supplemented my income online for the last decade. As most of you know, there are many scams and to good to be true offers online, I have spent years dredging through legitimate easy ways to make money online. You won't get rich doing it, but I have averaged $25-$100 a month in cash and prizes doing online market research and emails. Most people I know could use an extra $100 a month and since most of these surveys can be done from the comfort of your own home (and often times while wearing only boxers shorts and drinking a hot cup of coffee) the only thing you're really losing is time. I do many of these surveys while watching television. it's a way to get paid a little during my down time. Below are some of the survey and paid e mail companies I have been using and I can vouch for them all as legitimate.

Unfortunately, Hub pages has made me remove all referral links. Please contact me directly and i will send you a link to sign up.

I will be updating these often so please bookmark this page and check back often!

You're not going to get wealthy, but, if you set it up right, you can have a consistent cash flow that you can count on. You can get discounts, essentially by shopping from portal sites and signing up for offers. I also advise, if you start taking a lot of surveys that you set up a separate e mail account for them so your inbox doesn't get flooded and personal e mails lost.

I hope you'll take the time to check them out!

Inbox Dollars

This is an extremely simple program. You get paid 2 cents simply to open an e mail. If you click on the offer and sign up for it, you get additional payment. The site also offers shopping and you get a percentage back in cash for shopping through their site. You also get a ten percent referral fee, for life, and 5 percent of your referrals referrals earnings, for as long as you and your referrals stay active. It has a thirty dollar cash out threshold and a $3 check fee, which is lame, but, after you cash out they put three dollars into your account, so it ends up being a wash. The initial cash out takes six weeks, however, each subsequent cash out takes a week or two. I usually cash out twice a year.

The site also shows your earnings in a detailed manner, so you can see where your money is coming from and, if you link it with your Facebook page, it will automatically show on your wall when you have earned money. The posting is also a referral link which will enable you to earn more cash if someone clicks on the link and signs up.

They have surveys as well, which are hard to qualify for, but the payouts are decent. It's pretty easy money, just be patient on your first cash out. It's free so you risk nothing.

Survey Spot

This was the first survey group I joined, over a decade ago. They send a lot of surveys per week with payouts varying from prize entries to $10. I never take surveys that offer only prize drawings. My time is valuable and I want something guaranteed. However, for each survey you attempt, regardless of completion, you get a prize entry. I have won this a couple of times. Payouts are via Pay Pal and are fairly quick to be processed. It has a ten dollar cash out threshold. Just be wary of any survey invites that say "fun" or "interesting" as these are usually nonpaying surveys. The body of each e mail will tell you how many points each survey is worth and the approximate length each survey will take. Each point is the equivalent of one cent. A survey that pays 250 points is actually paying you $2.50. Survey Spot is reputable but often has low paying and lengthy surveys. Proceed with caution They do not offer any referral rewards.

MyPoints

MyPoints is another company I have been working with for many years and they offer ample and simple ways to earn prizes. Unfortunately, at this time, you cannot earn any cash, but I have earned hundreds of dollars in Amazon.com gift cards and other valuable prizes over the years. This another portal site which offers you points to shop, and each e mail you open earns 5 points. Surveys are offered which generally offer 50 points for completion, but also offer 10 points if you don't qualify to complete. They have a wide variety of prize offerings and I've never had any redemption problems.

The referral system is fairly decent. You get 25 points for each referral that signs up. you also get 10% of their lifetime earnings. For example, if you friend signs up and earns 100 points, you get 25 points when they sign up plus another 10 points from their earnings. This does not affect your friends earnings at all. Plus, when your friend makes their first $20 purchase, you get 750 points (basically, five dollars). It's a very simple program. you can even increase earnings by posting referral links to your Facebook walls.

Send me an e mail and I'll send you a referral link!

SurveySavvy

You're not going to get a lot of surveys from SurveySavvy, but they all offer decent payouts. They're hard to qualify for, but they do not have any cash out thresholds. Survey payouts are instantaneous and, upon cashing out, checks are sent quickly. I'm not sure how much the referrals pay ( I was unable to find this specfic information on the site, though the site does claim to pay for referrals), but they do offer a percentage of direct referrals and for the referrals of referrals, so you have the potential to build a nice bankroll with SurveySavvy. At this time, they only offer checks as a form of payment. I highly recommend SurveySavvy

Opinion Outpost

Opinion Outpost is a portal survey site. They will send you emails with survey invites, but also offer direct links to surveys via their site. They offer points, with each point being the equivalent of $.10. Opinion Outpost has a five dollar cash out threshold that pays out instantly, with restaurant.com, Amazon.com and prepaid debit cards, and PayPal, as the current payout options. The surveys are of varying lengths, but average 10-25 points per survey, though I've seen some on rare occasions as high as 100. They do offer referral rewards, but it's only a one time payment of $2 once your referral takes their first survey.

They are a good company and I've had nothing but good experiences working with them.

MySurvey

Another portal survey site, they offer a ton of rewards ranging from Amazon.com gift cards to PayPal and everything in between. The cash out thresholds vary by prize, but they offer 5 points for each survey attempted, with varying amounts for completing surveys, but generally at least 75 points, with some as high as 300. Each point is the equivalent of $.01. I cash out from this site monthly and get enough surveys from them that if I only wanted to work with one survey company, MySurvey.com would be my first choice, especially given the diversity of prizes available.

They offer 150 points (one time) for each new referral.

And in Conclusion...

I'm always looking for new ways to make legit money online and there are more companies available then just the few mentioned here. The one's here are ones I can vouch for as legitimate and worthwhile, and it's quite possible I will add more to this article. If you can think of any I may have missed, feel free to send me a link and I'll check them out. I may also have some advice on companies to avoid if you're wondering. I hope you find this helpful!
