There are several classes for phlebotomy training in Las Vegas that are currently in session. Las Vegas is a large cities with many program to choose from. Compare the list of programs below by looking at the costs structure and certification options. After training you will need to look into how to get more experience and get a license/ certification.

Phlebotomy Licensing in Nevada

Before beginning to consider phlebotomy training in Las Vegas you need to know what is required in the State of Nevada. As of this time there is a phlebotomy license required for phlebotomists. This is similar to other nearby states like California and Washington that require phlebotomists to be licensed. The difference is that Nevada does not require that phlebotomists take any special training or have prior experience to get their license. The licensing process is simply a form that is filled out with the State of Nevada. After applying and paying a few you will see a license in the mail. You will then become either a lab assistant or an office lab assistant according to your license.

Schools to Look at for Phlebotomy Training

The first school to look at is UNLV. The University of Nevada Las Vegas has in the past offered phlebotomy training to students as part of a larger laboratory program. It has since been cut back and is only offered from time to time to students. The program was designed to allow students in the clinical program to also have the ability to get some training with drawing blood. The laboratory program leads to a bachelor's degree but this is just a certificate in phlebotomy. The prerequisites are similar to those of other programs with insurance and vaccinations required.

Students should also look at the Phlebotomy Learning Center of Las Vegas. It is a school that has a reasonably priced program with a certification option at the end. The program requires students be over 18 years of age and get all of their vaccines current. You may need a tuberculosis skin test to prove you do not have any active disease. The total program can be done in about ten weeks or so.

The next school to look at is the College of Southern Nevada. This is a community college that has phlebotomy classes adding up to 6 college credits in total. The cost is reasonable and rates are charged based on the number of credits taken. As this program is offered through the college you will need to sign up the college before enrolling in these classes. There are some prerequisites that are needed. These are mostly for the externship that you will be placed into as part of the program. Since externships occur at local clinics and campuses there has to be additional requirements met for each of those facilities.

Another place to look at for phlebotomist training in Las Vegas is the Northwest Career College. It costs a few thousand dollars and has a fourteen week program. It allows for classes to be taken at the nighttime and has class four times a week. There is an externship offered as part of the program and a certification examination given at the end of the program. There are some basic requirements including having a GED to enroll.

You can also go to the Pima Medical Institute and get phlebotomy training in Las Vegas. The program costs a few thousand dollars and takes about three hundred hours to complete. The program has an externship as well. The program does include a CPR course as well. There are many classes that include topics like venipuncture and safety.

The last program is with the Medical Skills for Life Institute. You can expect to finish the program in about ten weeks. There are requirements of a high school diploma. A GED is also acceptable. You can expect this program teaching phlebotomy training in Las Vegas Nevada to also cover the operations of a typical laboratory in case you are looking to get a job in a lab setting.
