Selling Tips For the Newbie Ebayer

Updated on November 21, 2012

Selling tips for the newbie ebayer

I have been selling items on ebay for a few years now and think i have gathered a number of useful tips in helping any newbie sell their items on ebay. Ebay is the worlds biggest selling market place so you are going to have a vast amount of customers and if you choose to sell over seas, you will have expanded your list of customers. The two most important tips i have personally learnt when selling items on ebay are 1) A picture speaks a thousand words, in other words a very good photograph is the difference between selling an item or not selling an item, this high standard photograph of the product you are selling needs to be accompanied by a high standard description so point two is: 2) The more descriptive words you use, the more the buyer can visualise the product.

Another few good tips are to save on insertion fees by listing your product on a free insertion weekend. Also put your item in auction instead of using a buy it now on it. Don't forget to set the price of your item to a reasonable price. Don't set it too low so that you will be unhappy if it sells at the lower price and don't set it too high so that nobody will want to buy it. Finally keep postage and packing charges at a fair price, try and find out how much your item will cost to send before you list it by using your kitchen scales for the weight and finding out at the post office the cost.

I hope these few tips have helped a little

I'm willing to take a loss to get the tax deduction. I've learned to be careful with international shipments. Packages often go into a black hole. Then you Paypal transaction is reversed!

12 free pics is great, i didn't know about that. I agree ebay is not what it used to be and i really dislike how ebay always favours the buyer over the seller and that there is less protection as a seller nowadays

Starting July 2, Ebay allows 12 pics free. I take advantage of that. Ebay is not what it use to be for the small guy anymore. I sell now to get the business write off.
