Teambuilding Activities, how important it is really?

What is Teambuilding?

Obviously means to build a team. If the group is new, a team building activity is necessary to build up the relationship of each member of the group. If the team is already in existence, a teambuilding is necessary to strengthen the team. That is why agencies or corporation required it at least once a year.

Considerations in planning a teambuilding

1. Budget

The person in charge of teambuilding must know first the allotted budget to the group teambuilding. When choosing the place where the activity will be done, he or she must know how much is the allotted budget for the venue.

2. Date and Venue

When everything about the budget is settled, the group can agree on the date and venue. There must be one person to be in charge of coordination with venues available on the date that everybody agreed.

3. Write a memo for approval of the Head of Agency or the one in Authority

Once the memo about teambuilding is approved, to coordinate with other teambuilding related matters will follow. the one in charge can coordinate the vehicles to be used. Copy of the approved memo must be given to the authority to inform them also the number of personnel who will join the activity, this will give them the idea on what type of vehicle to let them use or if they will need to use two vehicles.

4. Preparation of Paper works necessary for the travel

At a Government Office, personnel on official business and out of town is required to submit a travel Order and itinerary of travel.

5. Preparation of Activities and Supplies

Depending on the activity, the group may need to bring paper and pen for some written activities. The activity for teambuilding must not be too stressful, remember that your group goes on a trip to develop a stronger bond with each other... Although there is some office protocol that we need to point out or give emphasize, still it should be done in a manner that will not kill the stress-free atmosphere.

Interaction of Staff and Bosses

Team building activity is the time to loosen up, work is temporarily left behind, and Bosses and staff are expected to enjoy without barriers. This is the chance to work together as a team in a different manner, instead of paper works, participants must enjoy doing some other things like cooking and doing other chores.

Eating together is the best time to bond during teambuilding. Drinking spree is good but still must be done with moderation.

Not an immediate answer to conflict

Although Team building activity in a year is a time for employees to enjoy, the activity is also an avenue to strengthen the relationship, however, it can never be an immediate answer to conflict between two employees, because conflict is something that can be solved in its perfect time, and definitely, they don't need to wait for team building to settle it, in some cases the team building activity became the perfect time, but not always. Two people in conflict should not be forced to reconcile in a team building to avoid spoiling the atmosphere.

Is Teambuilding Important?

Yes, it is, because an employer must also think of a way to make his employees enjoy once in a while. This is also a good time to develop camaraderie. However not always applicable to some individual...

But I believe it is also very important to know the choice of the employees... joining a teambuilding should not be against an employees' will. For example, she can't join an out of time activity because of some urgent matters concerning the family, I know teambuilding is important but it should not put the employee's other priorities in vain.

i agree, teambuilding is important. however, it's often seen as a priority (especially in call centers), and those who can't attend because of personal commitments are shunned. in the end, teambuilding loses its purpose.
