Examination pattern: Before appearing in any examination, one must be aware of every minute detail of the examination like pattern of the examination, sectional distribution of marks, syllabus for each section, cut off marks for each section and overall cut off marks if any. Also ascertain if there is a provision of negative marking for wrong answers. If negative marking is there, it is better not to answer questions about which you are not totally sure as any wrong answer will reduce your marks instead of building up your total score.

Questions papers: Practice previous question papers thoroughly, solve mock test papers and online test series. Don’t forget to manage your time taken in solving a test paper. Enhance your problem solving skills within minimum time so as to take care of the time limit. Don’t waste your time on a question if you feel you are confused. Just skip it for now and proceed to other questions. Learn short tricks to quickly solve things. Practice more to establish a good command on them.

Time table: Aspirants need to develop a proper time table and follow it strictly. They should allot more time to subjects that require more attention than others. They need to create an adequate study plan to cover all the necessary topics. They should adhere to their time schedule strictly and not skip their routine studies.

Study material: Books and reading material should not be selected randomly. Choice of preparation material should be based on merit and recommendation by experts and aspirants who have already cracked the competitive examination.

Pick up topics sequentially: Start a new section with easy topics. Pick up topics sequentially. All the concepts should be understood clearly and doubts should be cleared exchanging ideas and carrying out discussions with friends, watching videos and taking notes of important points.

Online resources: Online resources are in abundance and must be used fully by the aspirants. They should explore all the internet resources, available mock tests/test series and old question papers.

Time management: It is an important aspect of competitive examinations. In some of the examinations, more questions are to be answered in less time and all the questions have equal marks allotted for correct answers. Under such circumstances, more questions have to be attempted and correctly answered. To accomplish this, aspirants have to attempt easy questions first and difficult ones later in the end if they find the time to do so.
Cultivate habit of reading newspapers regularly, novels and storybooks: Read leading English newspapers daily and go through editorials. It will enrich not only vocabulary but also knowledge of world events and happenings. Even reading novels and story books help develop your good command on English language.

Write all formulas at one place: Write all formulas at one place and cram up as much as you can. It will help you find answers to many short questions orally.
Appear in all similar type of examinations: Many competitive examinations have similar sections though level of difficulty may vary. When you appear in several examinations you find several similar questions being asked. It helps one in securing good marks. If you are targeting Probationary Officer post in bank and you appear for Clerk examination and you qualify in the same. It will boost your morale and you will be encouraged to qualify PO examination.
