"What Kind of Work Do They Do?"

The notoriety of MTV's Jersey Shore and the appearances of some of this reality show's characters on other shows and in TV Commercials raises interest. The general interest of a large group of Americans in the 2010s is often in the types of jobs the 8 housemates on Jersey Shore hold  - and whether they actually work at all.

This may be a point of contention particularly with the unemployed of the region and those whose Unemployment Benefits are running out or have run out just short of current renewal legislation.

The Jersey Shore characters likely receive payment through their MTV Jersey Shore contracts, but what else do they do for a living? In the future, will they earn their own individual TV shows or movie contracts? How about the legal situations that some of the characters are amassing - how will these affect the stars of the show, their futures, and the popularity of Seaside Heights (Seasons 1 & 3) and other nearby locations? It's all entertainment of a sort and the industries most successful in Seaside Heights are Entertainment and Tourism-related business.

After viewing the television show that often centers on Seaside Heights NJ, some people are wondering if there are any jobs in any of the Jersey shoreline cities and if anyone really works in any of them. I decided to find out what occupations they hold and what jobs and careers are available on the New Jersey shoreline.

The Crew of Jersey Shore, Seasons 1-3:

  • Angelina Pivarnick. New York City bartender.
  • Jenni Farley. NYC graphic designer and club promoter.
  • Michael "The Situation" Sorrentino. Assistant manager of a fitness center somewhere in New York. Appeared on Dancing With the Stars for 4 weeks (I saw two of them).
  • Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi. Studied to be a veterinary technician. Also does pistachio commercials that I have viewed.
  • Paul DelVecchio. Disc Jockey.
  • Ronnie Ortiz-Magro. Unknown.
  • Sammi Giancola. Unknown.
  • Vinny Guadagnino. Trying to be an actor. Failing that, law school.
  • Deena Nicole Cortese. Unknown. Season 3.

About 50% have occupations outside of Jersey Shore, mostly in NYC.

If anyone has additional employment information on the Jersey Shore stars, feel free to post it in the Comments section at the end of this Hub.

Island Beach State Park

Island Beach State Park is a narrow barrier island that runs for 10 miles from North to South in the Atlantic Ocean off New Jersey, below Seaside Heights, between Barnegat Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

The state park is popular and well maintained, though undeveloped, and contains 3,000+ acres of land with 10 miles of sand dunes on its coast.

Comments around the Internet rate this park to be among the Top 10 Beaches of New Jersey. Users suggest that visitors arrive at 9:00 AM in the summer months in order to secure a spot on the beach.

Seaside Heights

This town or Borough of New Jersey is located on the Atlantic Ocean on a fairly narrow peninsula, with Barnegat Bay on its western side. A causeway runs east and west from Seaside Heights to Brick Township. Most of the jobs in Seaside Heights itself are at the A & P Supermarket and in Healthcare through employment agencies.

The community of Seaside Heights advertises itself as being near the large cities of New York City, Philadelphia, Long Beach, Atlantic City, and other locations that attract visitors; but less expensive as a base for vacations that include those cities. Dozens of hotels are available within two blocks of the beach, but some are not handicapped accessible. A few are, however, both accessible and pet friendly. Some offer free breakfast and others provide free pizza one night a week.

Toms River

Toms River is the largest town nearest Seaside Heights, located east across the American Little League causeway. A large number of the jobs accessible to Seaside Heights are located in Toms River and Brick Township. Jobs in and around Toms River trend toward heavy truck operation, salaried and Owner/Operators, Heathcare, and Retail Sales. WAWA chain of department stores is also advertising jobs in several departments.

Brick Township

Brick Township is located north and farther inland than Seaside Heights, offering the largest number of job openings accessible to the SH residents. many of these jobs are in the Healthcare Industries at a variety of educational and experience levels. Jobs in Finance and Retail Sales are also available in a substantial number.

Web Spidered Job Listings - Indeed.com and SimplyHired.com

Internet job listings for the Seaside Heights area within a 25-mile radius totaled nearly 7,500 openings for Mid-December 2010. However, this number increased to over 17,000 listed jobs in early 2014.

      Patty,

As the Hapless Househusband I discovered the Jersey Shore while ironing one day. My jaw dropped as I got hooked into their crazy world. I felt like an anthropologist observing the rituals of a very different tribe!

I ended up ironing everything in sight...
