What might we run out of during the 2020 recession?
The 2007 recession hit everyone. Some people were hit much harder than others. And many people don't realize that many countries are still in a recession. With the last decade of the U.S. economy being strong, many people have become comfortable and are not expecting this recession to hit them hard, if it happens at all.
I have been looking into some other countries that have been suffering years long economic struggle and you may be surprised to find out what they are running out of.
Lets look at Argentina and Venezuela. Both of those countries have been suffering a steady economic collapse for years. Even those with steady jobs are having a hard time finding staple foods at the stores. Many people have to wait in line to buy bread, flour, sugar and water at a highly inflated price.
Some shoppers are confronted with nearly empty stores that are missing basic essentials such as toilet paper, hand soap and laundry detergent.
And it's not just South America. Citizens in Greece are still suffering and struggling to get food and medical supplies. Just a decade ago, these countries were wealthy and had high quality of life.
I am not an expert on economics in any way. And I am not saying that we will end up in a situation like that. I am just suggesting that taking a little extra money each check and stocking up on basic staples and non perishable supplies may help you down the road if prices inflate or the job market becomes less stable.
Here is a short list of things I would recommend stocking up on:
1. Bar soap
2. Laundry detergent
3. Dish soap
3. Toothpaste/ toothbrushes
4. Mouthwash
5. Canned food
6. Beans/ rice
7. Cooking oil
8. Sugar
9. Flour
10. Medications
11. Candles/ flashlights/ batteries
12. Silver/ gold jewelry ( precious metal values. tend to increase during recessions)
13. Water/ water filter
14. Honey
15. Salt
Salt
Everything except for the jewelry are items that have become hard to come by in Venezuela, Argentina and Greece for the last few years. People have reported using gold and silver jewelry to barter for what they need. All of those products also have very long shelf lives. If you were to stock up now it may save you money when the prices become inflated.
