~Work is NOT Fun? Gimmie a Break!...Betty White stars in Hot in Cleveland!~
A misconception: Work is not Fun
Fortunately, this myth is being deprogrammed more and more because individuals are more actively selecting the occupations they enjoy. Since many specialized fields require advanced education, more thought and planning goes into the selection of an occupation than in previous years.
Work can be a lot of Fun
Actually, work can be highly enjoyable, very unpleasant, or somewhere in between. Freud said that an individual needed two things to be happy: love and work. Most of us realize that work is an important part of our life, and selecting work which is somewhat enjoyable can help make life a rewarding experience.
Do they live Longer?
I would bet that a group of persons who love their work would live longer than a group of workers who despised their jobs. Every summer I get involved in new projects. One summer I decided to look into new investment opportunities, including art prints.
I sent out some inquiries and my phone began ringing continuously from that moment. Each salesman who called me always mentioned the extremely old age of the artist and encouraged me to make a purchase immediately before the artist dies that weekend. Most of the artists were seventy or more years old.
Do Artists tend to live Longer?
As I became more and more aware of the particular artist I was interested in, it occurred to me that most of the important artists live well into their nineties. Two great artists of our time, Salvador and Erte, are going strong (in 1985) and producing their greatest works at this very moment. In Dali's lifetime, he has produced only a handful which could be considered masterpieces, but now he turns out one or more pieces each year.
I'm sure that Salvador Dali realizes the importance of what he is accomplishing and it is very likely that the most important works in his lifetime are still ahead of him. Take a look at that photo--he's having the time of his life!
Salvador Dali apparently enjoys his work and would probably agree that "work is fun.”
Betty White loves her work
More recently, we can see that the 91 year-old Betty White, a comedic actress, stars in Hot in Cleveland and more. Her career has spanned seven decades and is best known as Sue Ann Nivens on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rose Nylundon The Golden Girls. It is apparent that she loves her work and will very likely continue working as long as she is able. It is easy to see that she loves working!
