Developing a Marketing Mindset For Income: The 5 Overlooked Steps

Updated on June 8, 2013

In today's uncertain economy its good to know that you can rely on the internet to make some extra income. There are many great work from home opportunities out there, but none will do your pockets any justice if you lack the right marketing mindset.

Far too many desperate individuals think that they can find an opportunity and wake up wealthy the next morning. I'm here to extinguish that notion and tell you that you won't. Its a fact. Only lotto winners wake up wealthy the following day.

Like anything else in life you have to put in your work. Consider wealthy entrepreneurs such as Steve Jobs , Robert Kiyosaki , and Oprah ...they all worked hard to create the leverage that they have now. These three had the right marketing mindset.

Sure, building a highly profitable home based business is great, but you must first learn to climb the initial hill. There are five main key points that I want you to know. That way, on your journey to the top of your industry there are zero surprises for you.

1. Visualize Success

I could have easily stated to visualize wealth, but not every entrepreneur is in it for the money. Some, like me, are actually striving for freedom. For some, leverage. Whatever your heart desires, make sure that you make it part of your business to picture yourself in your destination. For example, visualize yourself on your ranch full of horses. Or, picture yourself spending more time with your family than at a demeaning job. Thoughts eventually become actions and this starts an effective marketing mindset.

2. Learn to Become Resilient

This point can offer up some serious competition with the first in terms of importance. In my experience I have learned that I have to be very consistent in marketing my business. Any business owner will tell you that when starting out, you have to "stick with the plan." And I am referring to your marketing plan.

Whatever marketing strategies you begin with, keep at it until you master it. In addition, once you develop multiple marketing skills create a daily plan. The idea is to set aside time to market your business or it will not grow. Does McDonalds ever stop? Does Verizon? The advertisers at these companies have a tenacious marketing mindset. Be resilient and consistent with your advertising or no one will know of its existence.

3. Be Prepared to Invest

If you're not willing to spend money for growth, you need not be a business owner. There are no penny pinching entrepreneurs! If you do manage to find some, their business is either struggling to take flight or they're going out of business (as we speak).

You've heard the adage, "You have to spend money to make money." Well this is the marketing mindset you need to embed. If you want to become a successful business owner you must not be afraid to invest in your enterprise or yourself. This includes spending on advertising, self-help books (training), and expansion.

4. Develop a Giving Attitude

What goes around, comes around. If you sow seeds of selfishness your home based business will wither and die. It is imperative that you grasp this concept! As a business owner, what ever you gain should be shared with those that could use help.

This could be a marketing technique that you've learned. It could be frequent sales or promotions. It could even be giving money to a fellow business associate. My point is that you need to become a channel of wealth, or a channel of knowledge. Let it flow through you and into the world of others. It will be back just as quick, and more often the return will be multiplied.

5. Keen Flexibility Counts

The home based business industry comes with many changes. Companies go bankrupt, fees increase, and training schedules change. I've seen it. You have to be able to roll with the punches and try your best to make wise decisions. Be watchful of trends and be ready to make adjustments if you have to.

Did you know that most wealthy entrepreneurs go broke before they earn their first million? In fact a large number of them do. This is why you need to be keen and flexible. Don't be afraid to roll the dice and try out new ventures. The largest risk in business is not taking any at all.

Did you think that business owners had it easy? No, their marketing mindset is tough as nails. They only make it look easy because they've created the leverage to do as they please. There is and always will be an initial climb to success. And the sooner you come to this realization, the better off you and your business will be.
