Updated on March 2, 2012

National Employee Appreciation Day

National Employee Appreciation day was started in 1995 as a day to honor employees everywhere. It is celebrated on the first Friday in March. Employee Appreciation Day is a day to let your employees know that you appreciate and value their hard work.

Ways To Celebrate National Employee Appreciation Day

Here are a few suggestions on things you can do on National Employee Appreciation Day to show your employees that you appreciate them.

1. Show your appreciation to your employees with a sincere handwritten thank you note.

2. Show your appreciation by giving your employees a paid day off.

3. Show your appreciation by taking your employees to lunch.

4. Celebrate National Employee Appreciation Day by renting fun things like cappuccino and ice cream machines, or having lunch catered.

5. Show your employees that you appreciate them by hiring a massage therapist to come and give employees neck and back massages, or arrange for a beauty day at the office..

6. Let your employees choose their own way of being appreciated. Have each employee write down 5 ways that they would like to be rewarded. You can then pick one (or all) of the ways that best suits your company's budget.

7. Show your employees that you appreciate them by making certificates that entitle employees to any one paid day off throughout the year.

8. Celebrate National Employee Appreciation Day by hosting a family day picnic at a nearby park. Provide food and entertainment and encourage employees to bring their spouses and children. Arrange a softball game, relay races and other fun activities.

9. Everyone loves cash! Show your appreciation with a cash bonus or a pay raise.

10. Celebrate National Employee Appreciate Day by giving your employees a gift certificate from Amazon or eBay. A nice bonus would be to give then an extra half hour for lunch so that they can shop on line for things to buy with their gift certificates.

11. Show appreciate with a gift basket tailored to the employee's interests. If the employee enjoys movies, give a gift basket with a movie and popcorn. If the employee likes chocolate, give them a gift basket filled with an assortment of chocolate.

12. Start Employee Appreciate Day off on a good note by supplying donuts and bagels. End it on a good note by letting your employees leave early.
