Does anyone know if you have to have any special license to have a drain cleaning business?
In iowa I meant
All references I have read about "drain cleaning" seems to point back to plumbing. You will need to check with local city or county clerk to see it this requires a plumber's license.
Additionally, you will need a business license, general liability insurance at the least. Also, the start up costs I have seen quoted are between $15,000 and $50,000.
though you should know plumbing, here in ontario canada there is know special license needed. i'm not sure about other places though, just check with your city registration.
Depends on the state you're in and what kind of requirements they might have for self-employed persons and small businesses. Also, some states might require that you be bonded or have business insurance, since you would be performing work in private residences or businesses where you'd be responsible for extraneous damages that you might cause.
The best way to find out the answer to your question is to Google "small business" in your state.
Here in Missouri. no license required to my knowledge. However if you try INSTALLING plumbing pipes that is not allowed unless you have a license.
