You may purchase foreign currencies from the bank. However, if you are living in the U.S. you don't have to worry, because $US is accepted anywhere around the globe. Usually, you can have your exchange done at the resort you are staying or get the price of goods and services quoted to you in local or U.S. dollars.
I simply pay by credit card or use local cash machine. This way it is not necessary to care about the local currency.
