What is the lamest excuse you've ever heard of someone being given for not being paid?
This question is inspired from stories relayed by some freelance writer friends who shared some of the ridiculously lame "reasons" their various publishers have given when late in paying for work. The lamest excuse I can remember was the one about a publisher who claimed her royalty paperwork had been eaten by her dog. Do you have any "lame excuse" late-payment-for-work stories experienced by yourself or others that come to mind?
In my experience, in writing or otherwise. People are rarely ever late, and it is unheard of for someone not to pay for a service or product. Instead, they will just find some loophole. Afterall, saying 'I won't be able to pay you for a month' still makes clear that the person actually owes the money.
