Modern Glass Desks & Clamp On Keyboard Trays

Updated on March 31, 2014

The Modern Home Office: Glass Computer Desks & Clamp-On Keyboard Trays

Setting up shop for your modern home office starts with a fabulous glass computer desk like those shown here, where you'll have the beginnings of order - and an amazing focal piece, to boot.

Many newer style glass desks have keyboard trays built in but if you've an older frosted glass desk design, a no-installation, clamp-on keyboard tray (like those I've included here) will have you up and running with just a few clips. Who knew?

Glass desks for home offices are ideal for even small spaces, as their transparency lends an air of, well . . .air . . . loftiness-- times three.

Scroll down for a look at several styles of modern glass desks--in frosted white, clear and black glass to suit your planned decor theme, along with the clamp on keyboard tray, if that's what you're after and I'll give you a few helpful home office pointers to get you from point 'A' to point 'B'-usiness in no time!

It can seem daunting furnishing smaller areas--especially if you're working your home office into a shared space. So, it makes sense to use as small a desk as practical for your needs without sacrificing important details like a built-in pull-out keyboard drawer or shelving for those must-have reference materials. Glass desks, as I mentioned earlier, make great choices for small home offices; you'll have the illusion of more space as you look through the glass desktops with seemingly no mass to them, so it will appear as though you've more square footage. Mirrors are another way to realize a sense of more space, as their mere presence gives the illusion of endless area, devoid of confining walls. Finish off with a rectangular rug placed at an angle. In an instant, you've more floor space! Well, not really but it will sure look that way. Here's a look at several small scale glass computer desks for your home office--however small. They're the great beginning to a fabulous result.

For some home offices, you may get by with using a small corner for your computer work. Ideally, a glass corner desk will fit the bill quite nicely. You'll get the most from the least amount of your appointed floor space by pairing up a corner desk with several shelves above the desk. Going up will make the best use of your working arrangement.

A glass top computer desk, a few shelves and task lighting and you'll be well on your way to a fortune 500 company--from home!

Not all computer desks come equipped with a built-in keyboard tray and a glass desk isn't very accommodating to screws and other conventional fasteners. Keyboard shelves or trays for glass desks may seem out of the realm of reality but I've happened on several trays that clip on, so all you need is a clamp or two and your computer's keyboard is in business. Be sure you account for things like legroom, your height, wrist movement allowance and aesthetics, if need be. A little forethought and you'll be good to go, comfortably.

For us decorators, black glass loves metals of all finishes, so you can't go wrong with matching up your new computer desk with steel grey, taupe or even white painted walls. You might even consider painting a few walls white and your focal wall grey for a balance of light and dark.

I mentioned earlier, how versatile these black and white glass desks are in your home office decor. So, here's a glimpse at two totally modern, low-cost black glass desks you'll love if you've been pining for an office 'sophisticate' in your space (well, other than yourself, of course).

Where space is at a premium, going up for useful storage space makes sense. The multi-level desk surface of this sophisticated black glass computer desk has a work station built in along with a very useful keyboard shelf that slides out for convenience.

I recommend this larger desk for a more involved arrangement where your home office needs more attention to detail.

With room to accommodate lots more that obvious, you'll more than likely be pleasantly surprised.
