Fifteen Hubs In Fifteen Days

Updated on August 17, 2013

15 Long Days

If you haven't ever read my hubs before, I forgive you. ;) Now, though, I hope you can enjoy this 15 day journey I'm about to take to see if I can increase my hub traffic and monetize my writing. Hopefully this will be the end of the seemingly endless $0.07 days for me. If this really works, and I'm hoping it does, I will shave my head bald and post a video of me doing the syrup chug from the movie Super Troopers. I'll even invest in the goofy outfit and a mustache. So here it goes I guess. My painful journey to making $10 in 15 days on HubPages starts here.

Goals

First off I guess I should introduce myself and let you know my situation. My name is Skyler Parker, I'm married, and I currently serve in the U.S. Army. I work from 7 o'clock PM to 7 o'clock AM at a facility that I can't mention doing a job that I can't talk about. That being said, when I'm not working or serving my beautiful wife of two years, I'm also going to college for Cyber Security. (Go UMUC!) Now that you see that I have almost no free time, I hope you'd understand why these goals are going to be a little hard to accomplish. I will lose the sleep and give my blood sweat and tears to do what I love doing though. Writing is my passion and my hobby so I'm going to try to take it more seriously. Here are the goals I'm hoping to achieve:

  • I want to write 15 hubs in 15 days. That being said, I may skip a day to spend time with my wife but I will write 15 in 15. I will update daily on my progress and probably whine a little bit, but that's ok.
  • I will be choosing at least 5 different topics. If I wrote 15 hubs in 15 days on how good Georgia peaches are, I would assume people would stop reading after the first hub. I'm going to mix it up a bit.

Along with my 15 in 15 I'm going to:

  • Ask 15 questions at a minimum.
  • Answer 30 separate questions. (Permitting there are 30 legitimate questions to answer.)
  • Update this hub every day.
  • Gain at least 30 new followers.
  • Add links from each hub to Reddit.com, StumbleUpon.com, Twitter.com, and Facebook.com.
  • Post a link to one of my hubs in at least one comment on someone else's hub per day.
  • While posting my links, I want to write at least 30 positive and helpful comments on other Hubbers' pages.
  • I will also return a comment for every comment written.

And last but not least...

I WILL MAKE $10 DOLLARS IN 15 DAYS!!!

If I make $10 if 15 days, I will have made almost 10x what I'm making on average right now. I can't wait to see if this works.

Day 0

Today I created a hub on how to build a Nether Reactor in Minecraft: Pocket Edition. Here's the link if you'd like to check it out:

So the stats aren't all that great, but I assume they will get better. See you tomorrow with an update on the progress. I think I'm going to go ask some questions and make some comments. We'll see how this all works out.

Can you guess how old I was in the picture below?

Day 1

Well today flew by and I did everything I wanted to do except gain a follower or two and actually post my second hub. My stats have gone up a little bit already from an average of 50 views a day to a high of 83 today. It feels pretty good to see this spike, but I'm hoping it's not just an anomaly. Also, I guess this post started off sub par because it only had about 580 words to begin with. We will see if adding today's words and updates will drive me more traffic to this hub. Thanks for reading, I will update tomorrow.

The stats look ok, but I think I'm going to edit these tables to see if I can show progress in a better way than I am now. Happy day! I reached the minimum of 700 words! Now the experiment can start. I'm willing to help anyone who needs help with this challenge. Email me at phtechradio@gmail.com. Thanks,

Days 2-3

Procrastination is a writer's worst enemy. I'm way behind, but tonight I have plenty of time to catch up. I've seen another rise in my views which makes me pretty happy. If anyone has any ideas for topics they want me to write about, PM me. I'm really enjoying this, but I didn't realise how hard it really is to stay on task. I will post links here for the next three hubs. :)

Day 4

Well, the Army called, and I had to answer. Here's a link to my "second" hub: http://hub.me/afzj3. I see now why so many people fail at these challenges. You start motivated, but dang it's hard to keep rolling. The sad thing is that I challenged myself and I can't let myself dissapoint me. I will write two more hubs today if possible. Oh my gosh I hate being behind.

Day 5

I have decided that I chose the busiest two weeks of the year to try this challenge. I am not giving up, but I'm going to have to slow down on updates. I have already bypassed my goals for answering questions, commenting, and asking questions for the week. Now I need to buckle down and knock out a few hubs. I've decided I will update this hub without any more tables until I reach the end of the challenge. Unfortunately, I have a midterm test coming up. But the Army did volunteer me for Comptia Network+ Certification, so even though I'm busy, I will be getting some good stuff done.

Days 6-15

This post was meant to last 15 days. I will admit, it was harder than I thought it would be. I'm updating this way later than I thought I would, mostly because of procrastination. I will say that I have earned almost $13 to date, I have over 9,000 views, and 40 some odd comments. Not as far as I would have liked to have taken it, but I'm definitely happy with my progress so far. Here's a link to my new hub about Area 51:

I hope you enjoyed at least the 5 days I kept up with this. I'm going to try a ten day challenge later this year when I have more time. Comment if you like my hubs and want me to do the challenge earlier!

Thanks for reading,

PHTECH
