6 Best Reasons to Join HubPages - Why Should I Join HubPages?

Updated on December 23, 2014

Why join HubPages?

There are many reasons for writers to join HubPages. Although many writers—including me—initially look to HubPages as a way to make money with our writing, it is really much, much more. Building residual income may be the first reason aspiring writers join, but it is not the only, and, arguably, not the best reason to join HubPages.

1. You Can Build Residual Income on HubPages

Yes, everybody signs up to earn income on HubPages. Even though it starts as pennies, there are promises—and actual success stories on HubPages—that residual income will really happen. HubPages does showcase success stories, and I have heard personally from writers who do make at least several hundreds of dollars of passive income per month. Others profess to make much more than that. Sure, it takes a lot of work, but success is attainable.

2. You Can Learn from Other Writers' Work

To stay involved in HubPages, it is important to read other writers’ hubs. To some, this may seem like a chore, and that may be the case when a hubber is really busy with other things, but your involvement with other writers in HubPages is essential to your success. Knowing other hubbers gets readership to your own work. And it's important to look at all these different writers and their unique work.

Reading others' work is a great way to know what to write about and how to write it. We can learn a lot from what other writers are interested in and how they attract readers. I also enjoy learning different writing styles from other hubbers--especially those that use lots of humor in their hubs. That's something I personally want to work on. Reading other writers' work can definitely inspire your own writing.

3. You Will Learn about Online Writing

Learning about online writing is important, as the wave of the future seems to be moving online. Writers have more opportunities online than they used to, and perhaps even more than what they would have in print. HubPages offers a great opportunity to be able to publish articles (or hubs) online.

Since I've been writing online, I've learned about SEO (still learning!) and how to try to bring more traffic to my hubs. I've learned about backlinking and how to link to other sites. I'm learning that using referral trackers can bring even additional traffic to my articles. I'm learning about all kinds of writing and sharing websites, such as Digg, StumbleUpon, Delicious, Reddit, Pinterest, and more! There is so much to learn about writing online, and, as it appears to be the wave of the future for writers, it's good for writers to embrace it and learn as much as we can. There is so much to learn here on HubPages. And it's a free service!

4. You Will Get Feedback and Support from Other Writers

It is a wonderful feeling to get your first comment on your first hub on HubPages. After joining, writers follow other writers they find interesting, and writers continue to publish hubs. Writers give each other support and feedback, which is enough to make one giddy. A lasting effect is definitely the self-esteem imparted to the new writer. Getting involved in a supportive community of writers is one of the greatest perks at HubPages.

5. You Will Be Able to Build Your Writing Platform

When you think that your hubs aren’t earning enough, think about residual income, about learning from other writers, about the wonderful community you’re in, but also think about this: you are building a portfolio of articles for yourself that you may otherwise not have done. Just being a part of HubPages is enough to put some needed pressure on writers to write. You feel like you need to contribute, so you write more than you normally would. And what you write will probably gain some online popularity over time, bringing you more traffic, money, and notoriety.

You are building a name for yourself. And if you ever want to unpublish your hubs to publish elsewhere, you can. Who knows when all your poems, your recipes, your stories, your tips on raising pets, or other niches will evolve into a published book?

6. A Major HubPages Bonus: Meet New Friends!

On HubPages, you meet a lot of friends in your community of writers. These friends will not only read your hubs and give you feedback, but they are also wonderful to offer advice and support. And who knows? Perhaps a future bonus will be meeting them one day face-to-face. Or maybe getting a complimentary copy of their books in the future, along with the proof that you knew them when….

HubPages is an enjoyable endeavor, if nothing else. If you've been here any length of time at all, you know that. Keep the benefits in mind, and, in the meantime, write and read. Keep on hubbing!
