How Much Money Can I Make With HubPages? - A Hub Challenge Journal

Updated on April 1, 2013
Well, I wasn't crazy enough to finish the challenge. But I will continue publishing hubs anyways.
Well, I wasn't crazy enough to finish the challenge. But I will continue publishing hubs anyways.

Introduction

I like HubPages. I think I’ll fall in love with it if I can make living just by writing hubs online. I recently found out about the “HubPages Apprenticeship Program.” I was so excited, and applied right away. I told my family that I might get accepted to a program that will teach me how to write to make money, and pay me while doing so. I told them, if I get accepted, I will hold the writing workshops I planned to take at the local community college, and dedicate myself to the program for six months. So I waited, and within less than a week, I got an email from the Apprenticeship Team. The answer? Rejected.

Here is what the Apprenticeship Team wrote:

“We especially encourage you to work on regularly publishing articles. We think you show a great deal of promise, but did not accept you into the program because we were concerned that you might not be able to meet the monthly minimum.

So I looked at my HubPages profile. Joined 3 years ago, and 22 hubs published. That’s one hub in every 50 days. No wonder the Team worried that I won’t meet the 8 hubs per month minimum.

The Team recommended taking on a HubChallenge. So I decided why not.

I challenge myself to write 100 hubs in 30 days.

May 21, 2012 - Before the Challenge:

  • A total of 22 hubs
  • 77,249 total page views / 198 views in the last 24 hours

How Much Money Did I Earn Using HubPages?

I failed miserably. But I'm going to keep a record anyways. How much money will I earn using HubPages?

  • In 2011, I earned $57.32
  • In 2012, I earned $192.12
  • In 2013, I earned $20.03 so far until 3/31.

If you want to get accepted into the Apprentice program, I suggest writing flagship hubs (Search the HP learning center). That way you'll benefit from traffic even if you're not accepted into the program later on. Just quantity isn't an issue. You should focus on increasing your traffic and get more satisfied visitors.

Thank you Shasta. Great to hear from such a well-established writer like you. As you recommended, I will keep my hubs' quality up as I keep up with the number of hubs I publish :)

I wish you the best on your challenge. I've taken this challenge and met it, so it is possible to do. It is a lot of work, and it is very important to keep up your goals every single day, because if you run behind, you don't have a lot of time to catch up. Also, remember that quality is more important than quantity. If you find that you might not be able to meet the challenge, don't publish inferior quality hubs just to meet your number goal. They are a waste of your time. Write as many hubs as you can during the time period, but keep the focus on the quality.
