Is this thing on?

Wow! hubpages is still alive? Well that's pretty special in my book. All the other pay to write sites seemed to have evaporated years ago when Scroogle decided to launch a war on ad farms. Today I got a paypal notice that Mr. Grant was visiting my online wallet. Seven or so years ago I wrote a ton of automotive articles when ad farms were all the rage. Now I more-or-less forgot about the entire writing gig. While the war on paid writing sites was in full swing, Hubpages.com decided to remove most of my articles for being "low quality". HAR!! What was I to do except move on?

A man, no matter how enlightened, can not explain himself to a grasshopper. Providing short and sweet automotive articles that are highly relevant to users might not tickle a quality algorithm or an unpaid "editor" but deleting content you don't understand is just plain folly.

Peace out hubbers!

@hardly That's really good advise. The video coupled with a detail article is a multi-media winner. It looks like a new fun challenge. All the best, Max.

Max, You are dead on. There are videos as well as articles by people who have a general idea on what to do but really don't know what they're doing! Meanwhile the readers and viewers are giving the authors thumbs up and high fives like they found a magic way to do a repair that the shops haven't thought of. I saw one video where the guy was hammering in a new wheel bearing into a steering knuckle. Another was grinding off the head of screw bolt because he used a phillips head screw driver instead of a manual impact tool and stripped the bolt head. My friend and I concluded we could produce a hell of a lot better video/article than what's out there and we have.

If you're going to get back into writing again, you've got to have video. It's like people would rather see the movie than read the book. The video won't provide minutia detail, but the reader can refer to the text if more detail is wanted. To do videos right, you'll need a partner as an extra pair of hands. Doing it yourself, stopping to move the camera or whatever, is a real big hassle.

@hardly I've seen your content, and it's good to know you still have your old mojo and more. I really enjoy reading material by people with actual product knowledge. Perhaps the pendulum has swung and the 'net needs actual quality content again. I'm trying to rekindle my interest in this medium, maybe by this winter I will start producing some new material. So much has changed in eight years! Best wishes, Max.

I too dropped out of writing self help DIY auto repair articles for a couple of years; but over the years my ad revenue and Amazon sales had been gradually going up based on 40 articles. I then showed a friend of mine my hubpages articles and said I should be doing youtube videos. He agreed to partner up with me as my publisher and editor and we've put out around 70 videos. I then took some of the videos and embedded them into my existing hubpages articles. In the last 4 months my ad revenue has doubled based on 70 hubpages articles. Don't get me wrong. It's hard work for both of us ... but quality articles and videos attract an audience over time. If you're interested, here's an example of one I recently did that took my partner 14 hours of video editing and 3 hours of my time incorporating it into hubpages:
