Ways to increase readership and a few forms of backlinking

Writing for hub pages is a business for many. To succeed in business people have to be able to find you. For you this should mean posting newly published articles on social networks, improving search engine optimization (SEO) by reducing it, and actually having others post your hubs URL’s to other social networks.

The sooner you start back linking the better off you are all going to be. Having your keywords found in your social network linked to your article is one of the best ways anyone has found to increase the value of that backlink. Attaching your referral tracker to whatever you share will increase only your earnings.

Simple non SEO methods to gain readers

Your newly finished hub needs readers. Here are some simple tips to bring a few in. At the top of the page after you have published you will find two buttons which will take your articles to your social sites. The twitter and facebook buttons have increased our number of readers. Every reader counts and my social site friends pass on anything they find of value.

If you don't have an account with Pinterest check it out. It's another good resource for readers. The latest report is that more readers come from Pinterest than any source outside search engine optimization. The lack of having an account there hasn't stopped readers finding me from there. Don't forget to send your articles there after they are written.

Email any of your friends who you think might enjoy your article. There is one person who has looked at every hub sent to their email account. This person literally lives in the middle of nowhere so has to access a computer when they are in the next nearest town. Since they are the only one known to me with an email address from this company there is no doubt it is them who is at least looking at my article.

Simple methods of SEO

It was brought to my attention a while ago that hub pages was not ranking as high in the Alexia ratings. This means Google will place other sites above yours when people are searching your keywords. There were many times blogs written on an advertising website we use were ranked above hubs.

Here is what was found.

Google does indeed penalize hub pages in it's ranking system . You now need to use complimentary keywords, videos, or keyword captioned pictures to rank higher. Realize this doesn't mean going over the two percent which is the upper end before they consider an article spam. Complimentary keywords are the answer.

If you test the keywords by doing a Google search you will know who your completion is and may find a way to beat them. How you beat them, is by using other search terms which are associated with your message which others are not using. We recommend doing this before you write the hub.

Remember Google isn't the only search engine out there. You might rank better on another engine or find other keywords to associate with your hub. Don't forget to make a quick search there with your keywords too.

If you have already published there are several things you can still do. After you know what is being searched you can change your hub title, sub titles, and content slightly to add other terms which will increase your chance of making the first page. For titles try to hold to sixty five characters. If you go over don't do it by many. Search engine spiders are looking for a short phrase or a very few keywords.

The title tuner is a great way to find out what people are searching for. If what they are searching for can’t be added to your existing hub title write a new one using those keywords. This method is effective as the articles will end up closely related and can be linked together. In my test this was touch and go for a while, but more search engine hits are happening for the new hub now. If you have more than one suggestion read them all looking for the most searched word.

None of these things are an overnight fix. It will take time for you to move up. If you use your own video make sure your keywords are relevant. To increase your chances of being on the first page these things are recommended.

An example of simple SEO

In your keyword search look for words which are being searched and make them relevant. In one of the hubs about my childhood I compare my early life to that of a Serrano Indian child. The keyword Serrano is searched and is bringing readers to my hub. My information compares my childhood to that of a Serrano Indian child so it is relevant. My keyword for the other hub even has relevance here. People searching the keyword Serrano now know I published an article comparing my childhood to theirs. If you can find a legitimate reason to bold your keyword this helps also. The best way to do that is use it in subtitles, although it sometimes does work in the body of the hub as above.

Why link and backlink?

Linking to other hubs is a good idea as well as linking to your own. This is a two way street. Other hubbers are more likely to link to yours which can increase your readership. My personal habits in this area are not to link to anyone with a hub score below 85 unless I have read their work and know their score is low for another reason like an absence. Be sure to read what you are linking to completely. This is so you know its high quality work all the way through. There have been some lately that start out good but look like spun material was used towards the end of the hub.

This is only recommended if the other hub somehow enhances what you have written. You can actually change a hubs wording to keep these links near the end of your hub, something else Which is recommended. Why? Because you want the reader on your hub a while before they click off to read another hub.

If you have business sites outside hub pages linking is still the thing to do. Search engines check to see how many links you have. Even with the best keywords optimized you will get more traffic if you are back linked. One way links are an important factor in the search criteria. They can be created by using a no cost blog or two. As many links as possible from other sites is a good thing too. The more exposure outside hub pages you get the more people will see what you have written, which is a good way to increase your bottom line.

Think outside the box

Backlinking to twitter, redit, Pinterest, and StumbleUpon work. There are other programs "outside the box" which work also. These programs are more business related, and most people want hub pages to be thieir business if its not already.

Sales spider is a good resource. Forum posts there are usually ranked within a few days . You can also place an ad with your hub pages referral link to gain more writers and be paid for doing so last I remember. This is a free resource unless you want to pay for extra advertising.

IBOtoolbox is a great free resource even if hubpages is your only source of online income. You can write an unlimited amount of short blogs (2500 character maximum) daily promoting your latest hub. Promote your hub daily on the wall to gain readership. Members of IBO will send your blogs to their social networks if they find value in them. There is a lot of prid quo pro. Those you send to your social sites will more than likely return the favor.

Our personal experience with this has been 700 views in a 24 hour period on the best day. This was before we understood what SEO and proper keyword usage could do. All the views came from our blogs being shared by others in the program. It has been used for promoting other hubbers work by "my Corporation". It's your profile and blogs which are picked up by search engines. Writing a short blog a week is sure to raise your readership and keep yourself in Google's eye. Now we are posting every other day and seeing 1400 or so visitors a week.

Search engine optimization and keywords are as important on an IBO blog as they are on hub pages. Keywords should be in the first and last sentences without looking out of place. To do it properly now write to the audience. If you find yourself using a keyword too often find another word which means the same thing.

There is a place to put keywords called tags above the blog before you post. This is something you don't want to forget. Those are what are going to help you get ranked the fastest. You only get one chance to put them in. As far as we know they can't be accessed again once a blog is posted. Each person has an IBO social page which will have all your blogs, any video's you care to add, your social networks, and any wall posts you have made.

Examples of information which help business people

Writing effective ad copy tops the list, you wouldn't believe how many online business people don't have a clue. Using numbers properly would probably come in second. Third is the use of etiquette in correspondence. You can take it from there.

Sell yourself as the expert in your field, an author worth reading

Most of my hubs are more about my personal experiences. The niche the corporation fits in is overloaded on the internet so I no longer try to complete writing articles to the niche. This is subject to change.

There are ways to get traffic without ranking high on Google, Advertising is one of them, for hubbers this can take many forms. Hub pages article writers are business people so advertising our wares is no different from what my corporation is doing.

People are telling me that in the future it will be best not to be dependent on the whims of Google's higher ups. My approach now is to get the word out any other way. Each time I do this I am creating a backlink to whatever business I am trying to draw people to. I am also giving them a way to see what my offering is. I have actually used my business blog to draw people to other peoples hubs which are relevant to the subject I am trying to put across in my blog. This is still a backlink to hub pages.

Being a businessman with more than one offering I am also trying to link them all together. It is working but taking time. This is a good reason to put your hubs in groups if they relate in some way. If search engine traffic is interested in your subject, you want to have as many ways possible for them to reach your other work.

It is important to remember that most search engine visitors are not familiar with how the hub pages system works. You want to make it as easy as possible for anyone to get from one article of interest to another that might interest them also. Each hub a visitor looks at gives you one more chance of someone clicking one of you ads.
