Twelve reasons for HubPages' success

These points are not listed in any order – their individual relevance and importance are equal. Not only beauty is in the eye of the beholder. These are several reasons, which I feel add value and purpose to our lives, not only as authors and writers, but to the overall community we call Hubpages.

I have recently taken the time to read many postings from our very diverse community of writers, from hubs, to comments and fan mail, and I noticed a pattern that is repeated among the many groups who call Hubpages their home. I’m sure that most of you are already familiar with it, and I realise you might read this and think, “What took you so long?” I guess some of us take longer than others, to arrive at similar conclusions, but I don’t think you will hold that against me.

So without further a-do, I present for your perusal, my explanations as to why Hubpages is so successful.

Entertainment

The first of my reason is entertainment. It is immensely enjoyable to browse through the wealth of available hubs. The topics range from funny to soul searching, with too many in-between to list. Whatever your interest is, there are hubs that cover the topic. And if there isn’t one, someone out there will soon rectify that situation. Whatever your mood, you are sure to find something of relevance to satisfy your quest for reading material. It’s like having a library at your fingertips. It’s easy to spend several hours lost in the world of the written word, and I thank each and every one of you for providing us with so much enjoyment.

Value

This particular topic is short and to the point. Every one of us has experienced the value of reading another’s hub. Whether it speaks directly to us, or is merely a passing interest, we glean something from every single posting. Some hubs pass on important information regarding finances, while others touch our souls or tickle our funny bone. Each article not only provides value to our lives as readers, they also do the same for the author, giving their words significance and purpose. A sense of worth, if you will, for their experience, life skills, research, or journey of the heart that possessed them to share their story with the rest of us.

Self Confidence

Since taking the plunge to becoming a writer, I have found the single, most important result is not the fact that I accomplished what I set out to do, but the self confidence that act has garnered. Each time I sign into my account, I can see how many people have taken the time to read my articles, leave comments or join my fan club. Each milestone is recorded for posterity, and the combination of those simple things completely changed how I viewed myself, not only as an author, but also as a person. Having the respect of your peers, and in some cases, a total stranger, boosts your confidence, and I know I am not alone in this.

Validation

This automatically follows confidence as being a positive, soul-enriching act. Finding others who have made the same journey, feel similarly about a subject, or offer knowledge confirming what you’ve written, gives strength and purpose to the author. This can then inspire them to continue to write, create, and offer their thoughts or stories for others to enjoy. It helps to lay the ghost of insecurity in the crypt, alongside its cousin, procrastination.

Information

This is the basis for everything we read, research, or write. All of us are looking for knowledge, and we like being able to either confirm or disprove our findings. Hubpages provides a wealth of material for us to search through to satisfy our thirst. From making money, to becoming a better kisser, the information is available, waiting for us to seek it out. Everyone has an opinion, and his or her own unique way of providing us with the facts. Simply put, this site is has a virtual plethora of new and exciting things to discover.

Friendship

Extraverts and introverts alike have a need for friendship. I’m not alone in saying that since joining Hubpages, I have found a place that accepts and welcomes me for who I am. Strangers have offered their hand in companionship and greeting, which opened the door to allow me the comfort and safety to speak my mind and find acceptance. I will boldly put forth a suggestion, that there isn’t one member who hasn’t experienced and been enriched by this. Thank you for permitting me to be part of your lives.

Community

Hubpages has supplied all of us with an arena in which to voice our concerns, ideas, connections, and of course, our information. In short, a community of likeminded individuals whose desires for reading and writing set us on a journey to find a place where we could share our passions. They have provided a pleasant, comfortable and safe home for us to connect with others and on some levels, ourselves. A community of fun, caring and wonderful people who help to make Hubpages a source of enjoyment and enlightenment for all of us.

Networking

This list wouldn’t be complete without touching on another important aspect of this site we call home. Possibly the biggest buzzword for the last few years has been networking. Without it, we wouldn’t be able to pass on information. The best advertising in the world is word of mouth, and Hubpages allows us the perfect platform with which to accomplish this. For anyone trying to sell a product, supply a testimonial, or just making friends, networking is one of the best ways to do it. And with the membership that Hubpages enjoys, it’s easy to see how quickly word of mouth spreads!

Equality

Everyone is welcome at Hubpages. Unless of course you pee in the pickles! However, up until that point, no one is exempt from joining this online community. There is no such thing as discrimination, no colour barriers, religious or atheistic prejudice, gender bias, or other nonsense. If you can read and write, your views are welcome, accepted and sometimes even debated. The point is, we all share the same right to voice our opinions and speak our minds in complete equality.

Diversity

I have yet to find, although I am sure there are several, another place that can boast about their level of diversity in their membership. Hubpages is a hamlet that brings together, and encompasses cultures from across the globe. What better way to embrace peace, tolerance and friendship than to become familiar with another’s heritage and country of origin. Hubpages provides us with the means to explore the world outside our borders, and get to know another way of life as seen through their eyes.

Income Potential

Not only are we fortunate enough to meet new people, make friends, better ourselves, enhance someone’s life, and provide enjoyment through our words, we are also given the opportunity to increase our income at the same time. It just can’t get any better than that!

Satisfaction

All of the things I have recorded above add up to the last item on the list. Satisfaction. Satisfaction of a job well done, of ourselves as writers, of our goals, and of our online neighbourhood. Thank you for providing us with a forum that allows the potential for personal and financial growth, enjoyment, friendship, and expression. Kudos to Hubpages for their vision and dedication. I for one, am very satisfied.
