Writing Effective Articles - There Is a Trick to This

Updated on February 19, 2013

When marketing your online business or your brand, writing effective articles can mean the difference between you generating a substantial income or not seeing a dime. Writing to publish online is nothing like publishing the traditional way.

Magazines, newspapers, and books have moved aside with the continued growth of the internet. Instead of an author's brilliant work getting discarded with the weekly trash, internet publishers can earn money writing articles.

Even better news is that they can earn it residually. Before you get all excited and motivated to publish 1,201 articles within the next six months, consider this; it takes work. These article writing tips will not only give you an idea of the type of required diligence due up ahead, but will also put you on the right track to making additional income.

Writing effective articles to be published online all starts with the proper keyword research. A benefit internet content has over traditional print is its ability to be categorized with meta tags and keywords. Interested in a particular subject, just simply use an engine to search for it. These endless results are all hinged together by plain old words (or phrases).

If you expect your content to be found you better do your keyword research. Your article or video has to be tagged with words that are searched for often. The body of your articles needs to have a keyword density of approximately 3%. The titles ought to have the keywords, too. The right keywords will lead to steady traffic to your brand.

Finding the Right Keywords for Your Business

Take the time to pre-plan before you start. When writing effective articles a little sketching will go a long way. Not drawing, but outlining and brainstorming. For starters do a "bubble" outline. Jot down your main idea (or point) of the article then create branches leading out to supporting topics.

When you see it all laid out like this it makes the composition much easier. You can try freestyling an article as you become more experienced. If you're just starting article marketing this technique will save you a lot of time. Try it.

Grammar and Punctuation

So now you have your keywords in place. Let's go over how to write an article. The whole purpose behind online publishing is to be viewed as a leader in your industry. This would be difficult, if not impossible, if you don't take grammar and punctuation seriously. Writing effective articles means that you will have to scour your work for things like mispellings and sentence structure.

I see runons and incomplete sentences all of the time online. Even when the information provided is valuable, many will still tend to deem it suspect when these errors are present. Another common problem I see when writing articles are lengthy paragraphs. Remember that a proper one will have a topic sentence followed by three to five supportive ones.

Back Links

Writing effective articles is more than just respecting these technicalities. If you want to earn money writing articles it is your responsibility to create back links to them. This is leaving a link to your article in any possible place you can. Leave blog comments to your article. Even link other articles that you've created to your articles.

You will get the best results if the content you are linking to is relevant to your articles. Creating back links should be an on going process. Think of it like maintenance, if you will. As the link to your works appear on more and more relevant sources, your articles will shoot up the search engine ranks.

Page Popularity

You can earn money writing articles if you find the right websites to publish them to. There are article directories out there claiming to promise you optimal traffic to your content.

They'll try to fool you by stating how large their membership is. The best way for you to find out the popularity of a website is by referring to Alexa.

You want the rundown on a website, they have stats galore! Since the money you make by writing effective articles will boil down to the traffic you can drive to them, popular sites is where you want to be. Hubpages is ranked in the top 200 sites in the world; now that's popular. If you run out of directories that will pay residual income, use your articles to build your list. Give Alexa a try and research the best sites prior to publishing.

Article marketing will yield tremendous results for your brand overtime. Aside from the income the home business industry can bring, nothing is more fulfilling than free advertising that works overtime for life. Remember these article writing tips:

  • Proper keyword research
  • Outline your ideas
  • Be mindful of grammar and punctuation
  • Maintain by building back links
  • Seek popular hosts for your content

Writing effective articles may seem tedious, but wait until you see the influence it has on the growth of your business. If that's not enough to make you smile then the residual income sure will.
