Cool books -- recommended books for children and teens

Updated on August 4, 2014

Looking for a good book for a child or teen?

It's a blessing when a child, young or teenage, likes to read. It can, though, be hard to find good books. I've made lists in different categories to help. Each item points to a review of the book.

There are books for young children, books recommended for teens, there are manga and fun books, there are educational books as well. Check out the reviews and you should be able to buy with confidence for your child.

As I find more reviews that I like, I will add them to the lists.

"The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go."

Dr Seuss: I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!

"She's strong! And scary...I bet she's single...I'd put money on it.."

Masashi Kishimoto,

A Dubious Offer! Tsunade's Choice

"A little attention however to the nature of the human mind evinces that the entertainments of fiction are useful as well as pleasant"

Thomas Jefferson

"As her first day of school begins, Bella tries to assure herself: I can do this, I lied to myself feebly. No one was going to bite me"

Twilight (The Twilight Saga, Book 1)

Book Reviews, Writers I LIke

My blog on books and authors

For more book reviews, see my blog: Book Reviews, Writers I Like. I mainly review crime and spy fiction but I'll read anything that's well written. Amongst my favourite authors in those genres are Ross Thomas, one of the great stylists, and John Connolly - newer but now firmly established in the crime world with crossover to metaphysical - if you haven't read him yet and you fancy something a bit meatier (and bloodier, be warned) then you're in for a treat. Anf if you want to see how a mother/daughter partnership manages crime thrillers with a computer twist, have a look at a review of PJ Tracy's Dead Run.

Did you enjoy reading this lens? Would you like to leave some feedback, or just make a suggestion? I'm always glad to hear what more you'd like to see here! Oh, and don't forget to SquidLike the lens if you enjoyed it!!

Thanks for visiting!

It gladdens my heart to see someone promoting reading. I may be retired, but still am a librarian at heart.

I have Books as Gifts lens I'd love to add. I enjoy reading lists, but was really interested to see what your personal list looked like and was disappointed not to find it here. Guess I need to click out to your blog.

If there is one thing I've learned about you it's that you love to read. Hey, we have that in common. What a diverse list of books you've written about.

My books are like old friends, and of course you can't get rid of old friends! I would suggest a book I did a lens on, Winter Garden by Kristen Hannah. It's the story of a family caught in the Siege of Leningrad during WWII. Thanks for sharing this lens.

I don't know, I think there are a lot of people out there who would be reluctant to give up their four copies of "The Joy of Cooking." Mine sits right beside my microwave.
