Is there any way to control/restrict which adsense ads appear on our articles?
Some ads that are placed on my articles are offensive, and I know for a fact that it scares away some of my regular readers.
Dear Jane ,
As far as I know Google has a unique algorithm that presents ads which are relevant to the content of your hub.
However , it seems to be that in some cases there is no relevancy.
If you see an offensive ad in your hub , you can use the Adsense's filters. In your case you can use the contextual filter.
All you need to do is to setup your preferences in your Google Adsense account.
If you are having trouble with doing it notify me and I will upload a tutorial with screenshots.

Adsense sent me a message that says that my publisher ID is not in my Hubpages and HowTheyPlay ads.text files. My earnings are fine generally, not too concerned, just wanted to bring the issue to your attention.

In the HubPages earning program, two of these ads are displayed on articles. So why are they included at all? Do they have the advantage of generating earnings form clicks and the HubPages ads don't (or do they?)
