Why does a photo appear on some google results and not others?

If you google "Authentic Pico de Gallo" my recipe shows a photo. But if you google "Homemade Mexican Salsa", no photo appears. Why the difference?

I've often wondered that myself. I've found while putting the link to my Hub on Google+1 sometimes you have to wait 15 t0 20 seconds for the picture and summary to appear.

The good news is there is nothing wrong with your Hub that's not showing the image in the Rich Snippet. Check your url here: http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets

Unfortunately, Google gives no guarantee that Rich Snippets will be shown in search results every time. For more info, please read this page: http://support.google.com/webmasters/bi … er=1093493

This is great! Thanks so much. I've learned so much about the internet since joining Hub Pages and I don't think I'll ever learn everything. I'm going to look into this further.

I'm glad I could help. Your Hubs are commendable. Did you know that Paul Edmondson brought one of them up in the forums as an example of a successful recipe Hub worthy of being modeled? Here is the link: http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/101129

No, I had no idea that my hub was brought up in the forum. Thanks so much for letting me know and for sharing your knowledge with me!

It's usually based on your "alt tag" and what you set it as. Also, Google crawls your blog for keywords and bases your photos on them.

Have you tried search engine optimization? You can put in the keywords you want to improve your search standings with.

Yes, I always use AdWords before publishing my hubs. They actually rank pretty well on Google, it's just that one shows a photo and the other doesn't. It seems to be one of the Google flukes I'll never understand.
