One of my articles on Dengarden has had a huge (for me) uptick in traffic. According to Analytics, the source is "Direct". Unless a lot of people bookmarked my article and are all of a sudden referring back to it, I don't understand how direct traffic could be surging.
Sometimes this can be caused by referral spam. A clue to this is 100% bounce rate and zero time on site with all traffic coming from the same city.
I've had the same thing happen and I posted about it on the forums a little while back. I concluded it comes from someone who is already on the site and gets to your article from another article by clicking a side bar link to your article. It shows as direct because the person does not allow cookies. I don't agree with the referral spam thing, that's been said before, because the whole point of referral spam is to get you to click a link to another site and if they don't provide a link then it's really not referral spam.
The other possibility is that they were on your article, left and then hit the back button to your article.
I discussed the issue with Brandon here: https://hubpages.com/community/forum/34 … ieldcolumn

Hey everybody,I recently started getting excited about my Adsense earnings as they seemed to be getting pretty consistent. Being new they are still low but they were getting pretty close to being $1 a day and sometimes up to $3 and $4. Really, I'm happy to see any earnings as I know they add...

Analytics tells me that I suddenly started getting traffic from something called the Maven Coalition. Since I don't have a website on Maven, are my hubs being advertised there? How can I figure out where specifically on Maven this traffic is coming from?
by DogGodFrogLog 15 years ago
Is there a way to see who's been referred by you and how well their hubs are doing?
