Since they can take up to 20 seconds to appear, could an image such as an outline with text indicating what the whitespace is for be shown? It would prevent reader confusion and maybe help with the Google "Page Experience"
Just bumping this up again. Could an hairline outline be added for each ad place holder and titled "Advertisement"? When I load an article, it's unreadable because I don't know what I'm supposed to do with the large white spaces? Do I Wait? Are they ads or are they images or diagrams? I just gave up and backed out on one article. For the moment I'm going to put a traffic light at the top of guides telling readers to wait 30 seconds until ads and images load. How would I get it to turn green? Brainwave: I'll make a GIF and keep it red for 30 seconds and then turn it green.
Most other websites I've checked have images that load reasonably fast. The main delay though appears to be serving ads, which undoubtedly reduces impressions.
You have a point here Eugene. Coming from a reader's perspective (when I read others hubber's hub) I find the ads confusing weather they are images or ads. As a hubber, I know that some of those are ads, but if I'm a not-knowing reader, I usually don't have the patience for the white spaces to load so I will just probably leave the page and look for something else. It's a good idea to put such label. It might belp reader's retention.
The desktop site I notice shows an outline and uses the word "advertisement". Mobile sites just have big vertical blank spaces that drive readers away (When an image and ad coincide, one above the other).
We're advised to remove white space from text capsules. Here's a case where an ad just failed, leaving a huge whitespace.
And this is a banner ad mid text, but the place holder is a medium rectangle, so there whitespace above and below.

Hope this is in the right section. When I'm looking at other hubber's profiles, quite often the "number of hubs" differs from those on display. I do understand it's probably because of idled hubs, but think it looks odd. People outside hubpages won't know why it says 45 hubs but shows 8,...

Hi,I wanted to put some more images in my hub. Every time I click photo, I'm able to upload the image but I can't put it where I want to. My question is how do I insert the image exactly where I want it?Thank you!Kathy Griffin

I can see big-big capsules of Ads displayed, in my most popular articles. If they appear at the bottom (underneath) of my article, I don’t mind. But they appear in between, almost after every capsule. And this I believe distracts the readers. I have even been told so, by some of my readers, not...

I think it is a good thing. It will make people think twice before putting that evil stick in their mouth. I don't know if people will stop smoking, but atleast they will see what can happen if they continue to smoke.
