This forum post outlines the steps that need to be completed to set up a GA4 property that is connected to the existing Universal Analytics configuration. We had previously told the HubPages community that this process would be automatic. Unfortunately, that is not going to be the case. We apologize for the inconvenience.

    1. Go to Google Analytics and open the UA property you are currently using.

    2. Open the Admin Panel by clicking the small wheel icon at the bottom left of the page, and select the GA4 Setup Assistant.

    3. Click the ‘Get Started’ button in the GA4 Setup Assistant.

    4. When the Get Started button is clicked, a pop-up will appear - make sure to click the checkbox on this pop-up before proceeding. If the checkbox is not activated, the property will not be able to pull data from the existing Universal Analytics property.

Note: If you have previously created a GA4 property using the setup assistant and it wasn’t picking up any data, it is most likely because this checkbox was not activated. Create a new one following these instructions with this checkbox activated before reaching out to team@hubpages.com.

    5. Once the new GA4 property is created, open up the Admin panel from the GA4 property > Data Streams > click into the data stream.

    6. From the Data Stream panel, click on the Configure Tag Settings section.

    7. In the Google Tag Configuration screen, click the ‘Show More’ button and then activate the ‘Collect Universal Analytics events’ option - this will ensure that any event tracking currently set up in UA will also be sent to GA4.

    8. After all these steps are completed, go back to the Admin panel of your GA4 property > Setup Assistant - you will see other configuration options. At this stage, data should be flowing into your GA4 property (can take up to 48h after the property is created), but there are a few other property configuration choices that can be made. Click the Learn More option in each section to read more about the feature and make an assessment of whether and how you wish to apply some or all of these settings.
