Is There Anything I can Do to Restore Traffic to this Article?

I guess it's because the ranking of the site has plummeted, but traffic is still falling and it only gets 40 views per day, down from nearly 400 at its peak. We haven't reached rock bottom yet but it looks like this DIY article is heading that way. I've come to the conclusion that it may be a waste of time writing comprehensive articles, it's better to keep them really short. Maybe if our long articles could be spread over a few pages with different URLs, they would rank better?

I do not feel qualified to answer on that particular article but did want to leave a comment about shorter articles. I think you are on to a real trend, as shorter and newer (not older edited articles) appear to be ranking better, but I think it important to work with an editor on this as HP may be less likely to move a shorter article to a niche site.

If your shorter article is not moved and stays on Discover or HP main site the traffic is not going to justify your time.

Maybe that's why Hubpages are getting writers to create all these ultra short news articles.

I do not have access to those numbers but since it continues to happen it must be beneficial to them.

Anything new that I write I'm now putting main points and Amazon at the top instead of concluding at the end as I'm thinking readers don't last due to stepping through the minefield of ads. I'm also only putting the bare minimum of images up (two to three) as they take forever to load, as do the ads. Another reason is that I believe concentration levels of readers has dropped markedly due to videos. But still writing a minimum of 1200 words plus to keep HubPages happy.

Let me get this right. TAG employ editors to make our articles more competitive which in theory will earn more through increased traffic knowing that the layout will in the eyes of Google lower an article's status, decreasing traffic and earnings. Mmmmmmm....

That's like owning a boat with holes that keeps slowly sinking but all the captain does is sail into port each time for a new coat of paint, heading  back out again.... at least it'll look better as water keeps pouring in and there are no buckets for baling.
