I'm not a keyword research guy. I just write what I want to write about, and sometimes that does okay. I know that I probably should, for income, just start spinning off articles about topics that have a high search value, but aren't overly competitive - I'm just too lazy to do that right now.
Anyway, I used the "addthis" extension for Chrome as my bookmarking and sharing tool - it's a handy and easy way to drive traffic. There are all sorts of sites that can be added to your personal set up of this tool, and one of them that I'm starting to use more often now is a site called "sodahead." I guess the name intrigued me. Sodahead is proving fairly useful for traffic. You create backlinks there in question form - you ask a question about something, and drop a link to a hub that will state your opinions or answers to the question, but the sodahead link will also have the function of a poll, with however many other answers to the question that you asked (you decide the other answers, and how many) - and then opens a comment/reply style thread.
Of course the key to all of this being successful is YOU. You have to hit some of the most popular questions, and leave a long winded detailed reply - as this displays some personality, and hopefully, makes you and your questions/backlinks interesting to folks who just like to hang out on sodahead and be opinionated.
I have no idea how long questions and links stay live, featured, or anything like that - but the real deal here is that some other sodahead person might so like your hub that you linked that they then facebook it, tweet it, etc, etc, etc. I think we all are trying to go viral here. Best of luck to you.
I'm going to give this a shot! Thanks!
Go for it! It's an oddball social site. It's not a "dofollow" link - at least I don't think it is, but a good presentation there and a little social interaction can get you some hubviews, and maybe those folks will share your hubs as well. Every little bit counts.
Wow...so after I posted one Sodahead question yesterday, the question its self is ranking first page of Google (position 10). Hopefully it sticks and I'll be able to check analytics to see how much traffic was directed from there. Yesterday, 3 hits were referred from Sodahead. Hopefully more come today now that the Sodahead question its self is ranking highly!
Very nice! With a little flair, and by leaving good or controversial comments on other top questions there - you drive interest and traffic to yourself, and your links.
I had a bit of luck yesterday with one hub - but I didn't do anything at all. . . .the thing just got around 80 facebook views, and close to a dozen twitter views. I don't know who promoted me on that one, but I sure do appreciate it. Sodahead looks like a better site than a lot of other social/blog sites for driving traffic here. It's dang sure done a lot more for me already than places like Tumblr, Friendburst, etc.
Thanks for sharing I am giving it a try now - actually the site looks interesting as well so i want to keep things discrete there - thanks!
Update on my use of this:
Seems to be it dropped down from first page for that search term that I had found it on (I found it because it was a search term I want my website to rank for, which it does). The honeymoon period is over.
I got 3 referrals from the link. It took probably 30 seconds to post, at the absolute most.
As far as I'm concerned, it's worth using. I'll continue to use it in the future for both Hubpages and my personal site.

Yesterday I opened an account with stumbleupon and posted a link on one of my poorer performing hubs. Now, less than 24 hours later the traffic to that hub shows 22 in 24 hours with a total of 64 "ever". This hub as sat for days with little to no traffic. The stats in...

I thought that the questions would be adding to the hub, thereby making the hub rank better for certain terms. However, that's not the case from what I see. The questions show on the page but not the answers, so the content of the answer is not really on the page, therefore it does not add to the...

I have a suggestion. Lately, I've been participating in Yahoo Answers. I try to answer any question I have a thought about, especially those that I have experience with. I have answered several questions that coincidently have hubs about similar topics, and in my answer, I provide the tracking link...

What the heck is the point of Q&A? I don't mean that sarcastically. I am really trying to figure it out. I can't formulate a strategy for properly using this feature unless I can understand the intent behind it.First the Q&A questions/answers were on their own pages with their own urls. It...
