Interview: Pamela Oglesby
Meet Pamela
Pamela Oglesby, also known as Pamela99, is known in HubVille for her informative and comprehensive medical and health - related articles.
One of the first nurses I met when I joined HubPages, Pamela's work continues to make me so proud. I believe that nurses give the best patient education out of the entire health care team.
Pamela is a remarkably strong woman. Rather than giving up when diagnosed with lupus, she readjusted her life goals. As a writer, she can reach a much larger audience in the same thorough, meaningful and responsible style that she served as a nurse.
I encourage you to peruse Pamela's profile to check out some of the varied subjects she has written about. I am quite sure you will find a myriad of subjects that you are interested in learning more about.
The times I feel most relaxed are ....
At home I feel relaxed when it is quiet and I am sitting in my favorite chair reading a good book on my Kindle. I also feel so peaceful with prayer and meditation. My favorite times are when I am sitting with my children and their families laughing and talking.
The times I feel saddest are.. .
when I think about the reality of losing my mother, who has some serious heart problems and losing my husband. He had a stroke 5 years ago and has been having some stroke related problems recently and the doctors can’t treat the problem
Something I'd like to teach others...
I like to teach others about healthy living and new medical advances. I was a nurse for 22 years, so good health will probably always be a part of my writing. I have also done a lot of work with spouses of alcoholics
My secret passion ... my dream job....
I would love to have a job where I could travel, then write about my experiences
.Most hated gift I ever gave someone ...
I can’t think of anything specific, but I hate giving money as a gift. I prefer to try to pick out something special for that person.
The gift I could have done without ...
Some relatives brought me back a bamboo beach bag from the Bahamas, which was huge. They knew I have lupus and can’t go to the beach, so it sits in the top of my closet taking up space. I really should give it away to someone who can use it.
If you peeked in my junk drawer, you'd be surprised to find ...
a packed drawer with things like measuring tapes, small tools, tape, string, a jar of screws and nails, a small drill and work knife.
My date from Hades ....
When I was about 17 my mother made me go on a date with a friend’s son. We did not really hit it off at all and I was not happy with my mother. Then, he asked me to go to dinner and I grudgingly said yes. So, a week later after I actually turned down 4 dates and the guy stood me up!
My worst/ or funniest vacation story ...
.My worst vacation was a cruise to the Bahamas with some family members. First there was a bomb threat so we got onboard 3 hours late. Next, the seas were rough and we couldn’t even land on Freeport as they were busy having a tornado. I had been sick prior to the trip and was pumped full of prednisone, which makes me a bit nervous. Plus, I had to watch after my elderly mother. My husband seemed to be ignoring me to spend time with his daughter and that didn’t go over well. Fortunately, we spent time with other family members aboard and the last day was pretty good, but I don’t want to take that cruise again, ever.
A life goal on my bucket list....
Now that I am retired, I still want to do some more traveling, especially related to my ongoing ancestral search. I definitely want to visit England.
What I most look for in a friend...
I look for someone that is there for me in good times and bad; someone I can laugh with and someone I can trust.
Something I will never part with...
My mother’s ring. My 3 sons bought me a mother’s ring when they were fairly young and could hardly afford it. This was about 6 months after my home was broken into and all my jewelry was stolen.
A life lesson I will never forget ....
When you are dating someone don’t jump into a serious relationship too quickly as you are both on your best behavior in the beginning. It is important to be friends and gain trust before giving in to the hormones. I did it all wrong in my first marriage. These are so much better with this marriage as we were friends for some years before we really fell in love.
The worst part of getting older...
The worst part of getting older is having wisdom now that would have been helpful when I was younger, but now health problem limits my activities.
A writing lesson I learned the hard way...
I am doing freelance writing and the hardest thing is using commas correctly 100% of the time. I have been studying them as you can have no errors when you do this type of writing. Of course, on Hubpages I've made many errors over the years and reading out loud helps me find little errors better than any other method.
My favorite movie and why...
That’s a hard question I love romantic comedies, action and suspense movies (no horror flicks). I’m a big fan of the old Alfred Hitchcock movies. A couple of older movies I like are The Shawshank Redemption and The Blind Side. The Shawshank Redemption is a good story of friendship and a wrong that is made right.
What subjects / genres do you enjoy reading/ about ?
I like history, biographies, Christian themed stories, suspense novels (but no vampires or anything evil) and well-written fiction. I thought The Help was a very good book. I also read National Geographic.
What would be a subject/ genre that you would like to read more/ about..
I am interested in a large variety of things but I still want to read more about history.
Can you take us to a favorite piece of writing on HubPages by you that does not get much traffic..
Do Livestock Injections Harm You? I think this is such an important topic and people do not realize the harm it causes.
Thank you, Pamela....
I selected The Supremes and The Temptations: "For Better or Worse" for you, Pam.
Your life philosophy is truly inspiring and motivating. I thank you very much for allowing us to get to know you better.
