Taking Control of Yourself

One of the common things in self development that most people fail to see is the relation that positive thinking has with ADD or Attention Deficit Disorder. Like what it sounds, people with ADD could not stay focus in doing certain thing whether emotionally or physically. Psychologists have found out hat people with ADD commonly develop negative thinking patterns. And this is due to the frustration that we have when facing with life challenges and which frequently will leave us powerless due to being overwhelmed. Consequently, this would then makes us even harder to manages those challenges and stop us from progressing.

Practicing positive thinking could heal ADD sufferer to deal with the problem. Positive thinking allow them to focus more on the strengths and accomplishments rather than weakness, thus, increasing their happiness and motivation. This of course will then allow them to spend more time in making progress and less time in feeling hopeless and down. Positive attitude lead to constructive action and results.

Here are 10 tips that you can use to instantly switch you into positive thinking patterns when you catch yourself feeling down and stuck:

1. Take Good Care of Yourself
This is the basic rule of everything. It will be much more easier for you to stay in positive mood when you are eating well (having balance meals), exercising (good for de-stress), and getting enough rest (rejuvenate).

2. Be Grateful for Everything
Gratitude is the essence of life and by practicing gratitude you would find more things that you could appreciate rather than condemn. Problems are part of life and the indeed help us to develop. Appreciate them will open up our mind for solution and self-development.

3. Look for the Proof Instead of Making Assumptions
Fear of not being welcomed or accepted or even rejected will often lead us to assume that we know what others are thinking about us. But fears are not real and they are not based on reality. FEAR is 'False Emotions Appearing Real'. If you have a fear that your whether your co-worker or friend's bad mood is due to something that you have said or done, go and speak to them. Don't let the fear to drown you because most of the time what we assume is not quite right. Stop wasting time worrying about something that you have did wrongly, unless you have solid proof.

4. Refrain from Using Absolutes
Have you ever told a partner "You're ALWAYS late!" or complained to a friend "You NEVER call me!"? Thinking and speaking in absolutes like 'always' and 'never' makes the situation seem worse than it is, and programs your brain into believing that certain people are incapable of delivering.

5. Detach From Negative Thoughts
Our mind is rather control of being controlled by out thoughts. If you catch yourself having negative thoughts, don't judge them but instead detach from them. Detaching could be done by asking how could your benefit from it or what could you learn from it.

6. Squash the "ANTs"
In his book "Change Your Brain, Change Your Life," Dr. Daniel Amen talks about "ANTs" - Automatic Negative Thoughts. These are the bad thoughts that are usually reactionary, like "Those people are laughing, they must be talking about me," or "The boss wants to see me? It must be bad!" When you notice these thoughts, realize that they are nothing more than ANTs and squash them!

7. Practice Lovin', Touchin' & Squeezin' (Your Friends and Family)
You don't have to be an expert to know the benefits of a good hug. Positive physical contact with friends, loved ones, and even pets, is an instant pick-me-up. One research study on this subject had a waitress touch some of her customers on the arm as she handed them their checks. She received higher tips from these customers than from the ones she didn't touch!

8. Join More Social Activity
This is simple because increasing your social activity will decrease your loneliness. No man lives on an island and we are definite a social animal. Get to know with great people with high vibe and energy and their positive energy will affect you in a positive way!

9. Get Yourself involved in voluntary activities (people or organization)
This is the rule of the universe, you will feel good after you have helped someone. This is because we find worthiness in ourselves when we could extend our help to others. If money is your concern, then you can try offering your time or other resources. The more positive energy you put out into the world, the more you will receive in return. The universe does not differentiate what you put out as long as they are sincerely done.

10. Use Pattern Interrupts to Combat Rumination (NLP)
If you find yourself ruminating or indulging in negative thinking, a great way to stop it is to practice NLP and interrupt your thinking pattern by forcing yourself to do something completely different. Switch your focus on totally unrelated thing and your thinking will start switching itself. Rumination is a state where you hyper-focus on something extremely negative. Ruminations are not productive because they irrational and not solution-oriented (other than excessive worry). Go out for a walk, talk to your pet, listening to soothing music or watch a humorous movie, that will disrupt your thinking pattern.

When it comes to the corporate world, protocol is pretty much the religion. To know the things needed to do are the basics of productivity, but interaction and having a steady mind makes up the entire thing to true productivity. There are those who seem to work well even under pressure, but they're uncommon ones and we are human and imperfect. To get these little things like stress under our skins won't solve our problems. Sometimes it takes a bit of courage to admit that we're turning to be workaholics than tell ourselves that we're not doing our best.
